So, because I mention it in another conversation, I am going to say this here where all new people can hear it, and it does not need to be said a bunch of times.
You will sometimes see people with faces like people you know, but they aren't them. You will see people with names and histories of people you know, but look a little different. You will see two different versions of the same person, that looks exactly the same, but with slightly different pasts. Sometimes someone will go away, and when you see them again? They won't remember you.
This is called 'alternate universes'. Most of the time. Maybe sometimes it's a pretty bad prank. That would be shitty of someone to do but it could be. Usually though? It is that you get two versions of two very alike things.
So don't get too confused if someone shows up and doesn't remember you, or someone remembers one of your friends, or someone is looking for a different but much alike person with same name. It just happens. It is pretty shitty that this becomes normal but ah... whatever. Someone good at science can explain how it's possible.

Still. Thanks for the heads up, I guess... Even if it means I'm gonna be double guessing myself if any of my friends show up here.

[ Hi, Niko. Alice trusts that the irony of a reintroduction here is lost on exactly no one. She makes a point of rolling up her sleeve as she talks, where the CDC cuff is still attached. ]
But for anyone's who's interested — there are a whole bunch of potential explanations. You can talk about some of them with string theory, and a lot of the other parts are based on quantum ideas. But if you factor in stuff like the magic some people use here, or just how differently some worlds behave in fundamental, mechanical ways, it all gets even blurrier.
There are probably more explanations than we can even imagine, just. Like. Inherently. If everything possible exists simultaneously, then there are going to be places where that isn't true.
It's all pretty confusing, but it's important, because whoever built the Ingress probably had a pretty good understanding of it. At least, in a practical way that allowed them to access all of our universes. They might not have known how this all worked, but it seems likely that we'll have to figure out bits of it in order to get back.
Which I guess is why we're on the road trip, to find someone who's got a better idea of that than us. So if all of this sounds overwhelming or frustrating, just remember: You can help by helping the ship.
[ Does she buy that? No. Not in the slightest. But it's easier for the people she likes if the Moira keeps the air and lights on. ]

So it is best to keep the ship going for now.
[But if it looks like they're going to get fucked over, Niko Bellic can turn in a heartbeat. He's never dealing with that again.]
You came with that thing fucking stuck on you? Fuck...
no subject
So there goes my cunning plan to ask how you got yours off.
[ It's mostly a joke. Alice smiles, a bit sheepishly. The skin's starting to heal from her last attempt, but with the way her wrist's been, she's not eager to try again. ]
But hey, it's a fashion statement. Is the breaking into rooms thing from experience? I've already been warned off one in the hold.

Are people really getting upset about it?

The last ship I was on was a piece of shit run by an asshole business. Demolishers on a space level, destroying entire planets. There is some legal system they answer to, but they used loopholes to sign us into contracts. That we do as they say, help them get rid of whole worlds that they "own", or they will own and destroy our planet next. For business.
But I found out a man who defied them, who they killed in front of us, his world still exists in at least one place. Even if they say they got rid of it in another. And even another him is alive out there, somewhere.
Sometimes it does strange things like that.
no subject
So, like, they were making you slaughter a bunch of planets? Tell me there weren't people still on them. That's sick. Actual sick. Not sick-si- you know what I mean. Just what? Damn.
More screwed up than strange.

It gets old as shit.

[ Because she can't say "old as shit", but that doesn't mean that she doesn't agree. ]
How often have you been forced to have such conversations?

[ He's already met an alternate version of his best friend. Could there be several more coming through the Ingress? Another him as well? Steve doesn't actually feel comfortable thinking about it. ]

I have met four of you, and two of them were on old ship at the same time. I met a woman named Samus twice. I met the friend of a man here who I saw die.
It gets very old, and sometimes sad to go through things with someone, only to see them again and find their eyes empty when they look at you.
You have a friend, right? Bucky. Knows Russian. Metal arm. I met him, but he is different from the Bucky that's here.

...Unless we hold fights to the death for multiples of the same people. That would be fun. Are there multiples here?
no subject
...I don't know. I've seen a couple of people like who I knew, but not at the same time. Knowing some people here, it is more likely that they would literally fuck themselves. Me, though? Totally okay with fighting myself to the death. [Actually he'd probably snipe himself in the head, but that's neither here nor there.]

[And were Loki to fight his double... well, neither of them is really the kind for face to face confrontations, so there'd mostly be a lot of attempts to manipulate people by one side or the other.]
