So, because I mention it in another conversation, I am going to say this here where all new people can hear it, and it does not need to be said a bunch of times.

You will sometimes see people with faces like people you know, but they aren't them. You will see people with names and histories of people you know, but look a little different. You will see two different versions of the same person, that looks exactly the same, but with slightly different pasts. Sometimes someone will go away, and when you see them again? They won't remember you.

This is called 'alternate universes'. Most of the time. Maybe sometimes it's a pretty bad prank. That would be shitty of someone to do but it could be. Usually though? It is that you get two versions of two very alike things.

So don't get too confused if someone shows up and doesn't remember you, or someone remembers one of your friends, or someone is looking for a different but much alike person with same name. It just happens. It is pretty shitty that this becomes normal but ah... whatever. Someone good at science can explain how it's possible.

I have had to explain it a few times. No big deal, I just feel bad for people that meet dead loved ones because of this. And yes, I have experience.

Mmm, it's not fun, this game of being stolen from worlds, is it? Loved ones is rarely an issue for me. But meeting yourself- a yourself you know is dead, no hope of coming back- is also very disturbing.

[Mostly because Loki pretty much made his former self erase himself completely and is currently inhabiting that Loki's body. Meeting his younger self, alive, aware of the betrayal... it hadn't been pleasant.]

Sounds like me, yes. Syrup isn't my first material of choice, but the little plastic squeezy bottles do make it very easy to draw with.

You were trying to fend off bad spirits. I don't think it helped too good. We never did learn what was happening there.

But at least you get it, which is pretty good.

Spirits do tend to be rather unruly, it's true. The dead are usually not terribly afraid, and it tends to lend them more focus than they had in life.

[He shrugs, face carefully blank for a moment.]

I've seen surprisingly few faces I know so far, except for master Kaplan, and he came with me. Still- in some ways, the face I have known, I prefer they don't remember me. It means they don't remember there, either.

I understand how you feel. Every time I meet someone of the same ship, I feel upset that it even happened.

And I admit. I don't want to see anyone from home. Even if I miss them, I want them to stay there.

A ship before, as well? At least this isn't terribly new, then.

I'd as soon see Billy go home, honestly. But for me... well, this is isn't much worse than home, in some ways, and possibly better in others.
