The purpose for this is twofold, so I suppose I'll just get started.

Over the last few weeks of getting settled into this environment, learning its...well "intricacies" is a small word for it, perhaps eccentricities is better, I believe now more than ever that we need some tangible return to normalcy. I would like to have the school-- [and with the video feed he links something that looks very much like an old-school brochure, (which will very much omit the whole "subbasement" part of the post (and is not icly-literal).).] --up and running within the month. We have the faculties and facilities for a number of traditional subjects: literature, biology, philosophy, physical education [though it might sound like he means something very different by this] and a few other outliers, but we are still very much in need of some help in the history and mathematics departments. (Though I'll take more esoteric lessons under advisement).

[He pauses then, and his demeanor shifts entirely, shifting from cold to amiably warm like he's flipped a switch.]

As for the second point, and no less salient: it is my understanding that I am not the only one of my kind here, and that we are not, perhaps, the only ones particularly gifted. For those of you who may not identify as mutants, I would love the opportunity to speak with you about the nature of your powers.

[He pauses to consider that request for a moment, and follows up with an addendum:]

[He doesn't joke about the well-being of young minds, thank you very much. He pauses for a moment at the question, considering the best, and most forgiving way to concisely explain it (when his expertise often begs instead of endless technicalities).]

Simply put, we carry a new, evolved--or mutated--marker in our DNA that allows for the manifestation of abilities that are...superhuman. They manifest typically during puberty, sometimes earlier and in some rare cases much later, in a number of unique ways. Telepathy, teleportation, shapeshifting, et. cetera.

[The cultural implications--something his own home is too well acquainted with in all of its negativity--haven't seemed to follow him thus far, beyond his world's own biases as they've been dragged to this system with him. He's thankful for that, but even if they had, Charles has always been on the front line of making himself a visible advocate so that others can keep to the level of anonymity they wish, and it would likely change his approach here very little.]

There are a fair few of us, yes. [He notices that uncertainty, and he's not entirely sure of its source, so he keeps it vague for the moment.] I'm not sure I expected to see much different, but nothing here is very expected, is it?

I can't offer myself for full time, but I can tutor some kids in history. Or at least, in examples of verified past events of different worlds. I've been trying to brush up on multiple histories while I've been here. Diverging pasts makes it a little complicated.

I think that may be what makes it more important than ever. History is already complicated and hardly linear, but we have little recourse to even put up a front of it now.

Though I suppose we should looking into an expansion in that regard: our history is confusing enough as it is. A slew of alternate series of events is only going to make that more complicated.

I believe we have that in common, but yes. We existed before the context turned into what it is, and I'm not about to let them take something that should be perfectly natural and twist the narrative. We're better than what "they" would make of us.

'iffy', at best, about the whole idea of talking to someone else about... everything, but he's only had his powers for a little while, and maybe he could be better? maybe there's things he doesn't know yet about them - maybe he could do more good when he gets back home. after all, he's maybe-hopefully-kind-of part of the avengers now.

it's also a little while before he texts - because texting is much easier than videoing, oh my god, like, so much easier - and in true fashion it takes him a little while to get around to the topic at hand. ]

Well, Mr. Parker, you're in luck. "The Scarlet Letter" has never been part of my curriculum, and I don't has a wish to begin that now.

[Puritanical guilt? Of course it has some resonance and even some importance in the scope of American literature, but he has bigger problems to tackle than the ordeals of Hester Prynne.]

In any case, these gifts/mutations/talents/whatever else you'd like to call them typically, in my experience, manifest in adolescence, and they tend to manifest in number of different ways. Telepathy, transportation, physical transformation...the list goes on. There are a few of us--mutants in specific--here, of course, as well as...well, a good growing number of talented people who seem to have found similar gifts in a number of ways I've never had to previously consider.

"A fair few," is about the simplest answer I can give, but yes, it's alright to ask. Having open communication about this is, I've found, one of the best things for it.
