[The video feed here is set up very much like he's filming an orientation video; he knows little else other than strict formality here, but...when it comes to his school, he would say he finds the professionalism appropriate.]
The purpose for this is twofold, so I suppose I'll just get started.
Over the last few weeks of getting settled into this environment, learning its...well "intricacies" is a small word for it, perhaps eccentricities is better, I believe now more than ever that we need some tangible return to normalcy. I would like to have the school-- [and with the video feed he links something that looks very much like an old-school brochure, (which will very much omit the whole "subbasement" part of the post (and is not icly-literal).).] --up and running within the month. We have the faculties and facilities for a number of traditional subjects: literature, biology, philosophy, physical education [though it might sound like he means something very different by this] and a few other outliers, but we are still very much in need of some help in the history and mathematics departments. (Though I'll take more esoteric lessons under advisement).
[He pauses then, and his demeanor shifts entirely, shifting from cold to amiably warm like he's flipped a switch.]
As for the second point, and no less salient: it is my understanding that I am not the only one of my kind here, and that we are not, perhaps, the only ones particularly gifted. For those of you who may not identify as mutants, I would love the opportunity to speak with you about the nature of your powers.
[He pauses to consider that request for a moment, and follows up with an addendum:]
If any of you are comfortable doing so.

I heard that: "like us." What can you do, Mr. Xavier?
no subject
[It's altogether and wholly more complicated than that, and leaves out the entire issue of mind control, but it's not important at present. (Or so he thinks.)]
no subject
You've been able to do it all your life... and you had to learn to control it?
[She thinks through the implications of this. It's one thing to have to control a power that might explode out like a flower, or like a cannonball. Being able to read people's minds is a different level of powers, and nothing she's ever heard of a real person being able to do. Maybe one of the old gods, but maybe not, maybe they just understood human nature very well. Either way, it's like something out of a story.
But isn't she, too?]

[ But he has the inkling that they're really not talking about him. Of course, it's not possible to get a read over the network like this, even if he were inclined to pry, but words haven't begun to fail yet. They're dancing around an obfuscated point, in the same way "asking for a friend" never means "friend."
He nods quietly. ]
But yes, I had to learn how to control it. The ability may be a gift, but it's also a responsibility.

[What she means is, it's always been there.]
I can't control the weather, exactly, but I can make ice and snow... a lot of ice and snow. I can't make it sunny, but I can make it winter. And I can direct it. I can make ice castles, or a skating rink, or any ice sculpture I can think of, and I never feel the cold.
I feel like there's a responsibility not to hurt people with it, as much as I can, but... it sounds like you mean something more than that. A responsibility to help?
[She loves her powers, but there are only a few conditions where she can think of where it would be actively helpful, instead of just something interesting and delightful for her people around her to enjoy.]
no subject
[ But in that long-winded diatribe of "with great power comes great responsibility," he still finds a smile. ]
I don't mean to put the abilities away and never use them until there's an overt need. Simply recognizing the boundaries that come with them.
