Video: Avagi Emergency Procedures
[ When the network lights up again, it's a vid post featuring a stripy, dark plated Turian. He's in some properly mucked up thermals and looking like he's been running on about an hour of sleep. ]
Nihlus Kryik. Life Support and Sanitation.
[ Is that a sufficient intro? Probably not. He's not really here for introductions at the moment anyways. ]
Now that the possible remnants of Ingress energy have opened up connections to other worlds again... It is probably to the benefit of most, if not all of us, to bring up the discussion of various Ingress traveling procedures. Including preparatory lock down drills, quarantine and the establishment of diplomatic relations.
This world may well be peaceful, but if these portals work anything like previous pieces of Ingress tech have, it's no guarantee that things will remain so in a month's time.
I, and a few other crew members, have gone around scouting out and marking off potential safe rooms in various sectors of Avagi. Setting them up further will have to be more of a community effort.
They will need to be fortified, stocked with supplies, and set on an independent air, water and power circuit. Security measures will need to be wired in and then we will need to review drill procedures, preferably on a monthly basis. We need a dedicated number of people who would be willing to take on the task of directing other crew members to these safe rooms, as well as instructing them on what to do in times of crisis.
Additionally, these rooms will double as containment units, should creatures like the Ploiatos appear again.
Quarantine procedures will also need to be set up. Before any attempts at Ingress exploration can happen: we need to establish whether or not the worlds we're entering through the portals are safe. If I can have the cooperation of people in medical on the matter, direction on this front would be thoroughly appreciated. At the very least, a quarantine zone in the immediate area around the shrines will need to be established. Everyone who enters and exits the tears will need to sign off with a date and time stamp as well as log anything you bring back with you to make tracking down any unpleasant passengers easier.
In a similar vein, I will be holding a seminar on First Contact situations in the Music Hall with the vague hopes of maintaining peace and diplomatic relations with any species on the other side. If at all possible, I sincerely hope you will attend. If you don't, I ask that you do your level best to not murder anyone or start unnecessary fights.
Unless they're into that.
Please.
Volunteers on all fronts would be more than welcome. Just note your desire to participate here, your area of specialty, whether or not you need training- and I will have you listed. Once everything is organized, you will be given a set of tasks to carry out as the projects go forwards. If you'd like more involvement than that, feel free to ask.
I've added two additional categories to the current voluntary signup form, which I've attached. Please use that as reference
Debate and discussion on the topic is also more than welcome. If you have suggestions, improvements, concerns or resources that you would like to share, this space is also open to such matters.

Portal in observation center secure. No observed transit.
[Translation: Rinzler supports this project and is currently enacting it.]

[ Unseen here is Nihlus idly pinching the bridge of his nose to stem the oncoming headache at just the idea of it. ]

[Headache what headache unseen is Rinzler being VERY EXCITE actual security procedures yes pls.]
Can assist in location assessment once Portals are secured. Request additional data (medical procedures) and support as available.

I would hope that we could actually leave, but if the portals behave as before we might not have too much choice in returning to the station. So I think if we have the chance to gather supplies, food, anything, we should jump on it.
[He's still worried about storm distorted things, but something else occurs to him. Ploiatos reminds him.]
In our diplomatic efforts, think we should warn people of what might come?
Video
[ That stress headache is getting worse. ]
We have MORE than a few crew members who are going to go out and cause trouble and we can't physically be there to supervise all of them- and we have no authority over them to begin with. The locals on the other side of the portal will need to know before things spiral completely.
As for help- I will take literally any form of help I can get at the moment, thank you, Miller. I can't run all of this and sort out Life Support at the same time, unfortunately. I need more people involved.

At least we should be better prepared to be treated as threatening outsiders, given our experiences.
oh, shoot, i misread your last post, sorry!

She is in no way prepared for this. It's insane that Shepard thinks she is. Or that anybody would listen to her, especially in an emergency. It's also probably small of her, but talking to aliens is scary and she knows she shouldn't stare but it's hard not to.
Here's hoping this guy is ready to teach a remedial class. ]
Hi, I'm Kelly Ann. Or you can call me Pistachio. If you want. [ She chuckles awkwardly and smiles a grimacy sort of smile. ] I was talking to Shepard and she thinks I'd be a good fit for the Emergency Procedures Team?
Video
[ Nihlus is, as always, generally pretty formal with people. Of course, he also has no idea what a Pistachio actually is. ]
If Shepard considers you a good fit for the team then I would trust her word on the matter. Her outline of your skill sets certainly fit what we need. I will run you down the procedures and see if there's any gaps in knowledge that might potentially need to be covered. Otherwise, welcome to the team.
[ Yeah, this Spectre isn't quite as affable as his co-worker in full professional mode. Also, the stress might be wearing him a little. ]

Um, ok. I don't know what exactly she told you about me, but I'm a roadie. I do like, stage crew stuff for a rock band. One of my tour managers was really particular about like, fire evacuation kind of stuff but I never had to use any of it. So. I mean, I'm totally willing to try and I'll do my best but. There's no potential gaps in knowledge here. I'm not really sure why she is so sure I'm qualified.

[He says it with a smile but it's not a joke; it couldn't possibly be more earnest really. Whatever stumbling blocks were still ahead of them, they were being addressed.]
I, uh...if you still need help, I might be able to lend a hand. Especially with the set up and infrastructure.
Video;
[ They were only ever in each other's peripheries, but... Nihlus still offers him a smile in return, warm despite his somewhat haphazard appearance.
It's so strange seeing all these new old faces around all of a sudden. Was there something about the Moira's Ingress that made this space more likely to pull them in? How curious. ]
Any kind of help you can give is more than welcome. Both of those categories direly need more people working on it and as soon as possible.
video;
[Like what killed the planet back there.]
Safe rooms are a good idea. Once we can figure out if things and people pop up randomly, or if there's any kind of pattern.

[ The to-do list is very, very long. ]
This is not, however, something we can afford to be idle on. The priority is the safety of the present crew. We need as many of these measures up and running as soon as possible. Worrying about new arrivals will have to be secondary.
More immediately, if you could rope people in on guarding the Ingresses and try to, [ Nihlus makes vague gesture. ] Deter people from entering until we've sorted everything else, that would be handy.

The team will still work with your efforts to ensure medical kits in all the locations you want to set up, but I'd like to also route air filtration and other necessities directly into Medbay so we can seal it off and use it as a secure location.
[ He's talking as he's working on something. ]
There will also be additional quarantine measures embedded within Medical.
[ And finally, after an small awkward pause, he'll offer. ]
If you need or would like any assistance with First Contact protocols, let me know. But I can also think of two names you might want to specifically reach out to.
video;
[ Medical and Life Support.
Now just comes the task of actually making that happen. So far, the only other proper engineer on the team was Ratchet. ]
Medical kits, certainly. Do we have enough resources to set up decontamination tents at any of the sites?
[ As for the other protocols... ]
A human perspective on the matter is more than welcome. If you have the time to spare.
[ This was, after all, a majority-human crew. ]

Talon can handle getting those saferooms up to code, Monsieur. At least as far as the technical specifications go.

Rinzler's brand of paranoia he was used to at least. Knew the source of. Understood. But the motivations for his new coworkers were murky at best. And considering his previous talk with one of the members of Team Talon...
The lock down rooms were not, however, going to build themselves on trust and wishful thinking. There were other ways to stem internal threats anyways.
Time to pulls some strings, then. But first-
Nihlus expertly scrubs the wariness from his tones, expression falling back to to sleepless exhaustion before he hits the answer button. Cranky tiredness was not at all hard to fake right now. ]
LaCroix, correct?
What is your team's skill set with regards to engineering? If nothing else, this will make it easier to determine where you will be most needed.

Consider yourself onboard, Oswald.
We need to sort out the list of topics to discuss, in what order, and then set up the Music Hall for the seminar. Miller's also in so we should... be okay if we get a big crowd.
[ Unlikely, considering this crew, but Nihlus is allowed to hope, right? ]

[Clu is a relentless engine of the present tense.
It's as though nothing is different and no time has passed and they're not neighbors. Smug little grin firmly in place, bright and glib.]
Your approach to policy is fascinating. [Wry, maybe, but entirely sincere.] I like the scope of thought, in particular. You covered every major base.
But, ah. If you really are asking for input, man--I have several.
Let's start with: how do you hope to enforce a lot of this?
video; encrypted
Presently, we have a population split into multiple smaller units, ranging from individuals to well-formed teams with an established hierarchy. Each of these groups have their own agendas, wants and needs. Many would disagree with a traditional command structure.
Enforcement will have to be a cooperative effort as well. Once the initial organization has been set up, we'll have a better idea of how relations within Avagi will affect its future. For now, the people who want a habitable station seem to generally outnumber people with opinions leaning otherwise
[ Twinning his fingers together, long claws gleaming, Nihlus leans forwards, chin atop his knuckles. ]
Unless you happen to have a, ah. Better proposal?
