[ When the network lights up again, it's a vid post featuring a stripy, dark plated Turian. He's in some properly mucked up thermals and looking like he's been running on about an hour of sleep. ]

[ Is that a sufficient intro? Probably not. He's not really here for introductions at the moment anyways. ]

Now that the possible remnants of Ingress energy have opened up connections to other worlds again... It is probably to the benefit of most, if not all of us, to bring up the discussion of various Ingress traveling procedures. Including preparatory lock down drills, quarantine and the establishment of diplomatic relations.

This world may well be peaceful, but if these portals work anything like previous pieces of Ingress tech have, it's no guarantee that things will remain so in a month's time.

I, and a few other crew members, have gone around scouting out and marking off potential safe rooms in various sectors of Avagi. Setting them up further will have to be more of a community effort.

They will need to be fortified, stocked with supplies, and set on an independent air, water and power circuit. Security measures will need to be wired in and then we will need to review drill procedures, preferably on a monthly basis. We need a dedicated number of people who would be willing to take on the task of directing other crew members to these safe rooms, as well as instructing them on what to do in times of crisis.

Additionally, these rooms will double as containment units, should creatures like the Ploiatos appear again.

Quarantine procedures will also need to be set up. Before any attempts at Ingress exploration can happen: we need to establish whether or not the worlds we're entering through the portals are safe. If I can have the cooperation of people in medical on the matter, direction on this front would be thoroughly appreciated. At the very least, a quarantine zone in the immediate area around the shrines will need to be established. Everyone who enters and exits the tears will need to sign off with a date and time stamp as well as log anything you bring back with you to make tracking down any unpleasant passengers easier.

In a similar vein, I will be holding a seminar on First Contact situations in the Music Hall with the vague hopes of maintaining peace and diplomatic relations with any species on the other side. If at all possible, I sincerely hope you will attend. If you don't, I ask that you do your level best to not murder anyone or start unnecessary fights.

Once everything is organized, you will be given a set of tasks to carry out as the projects go forwards. If you'd like more involvement than that, feel free to ask.

[ Nihlus is, as always, generally pretty formal with people. Of course, he also has no idea what a Pistachio actually is. ]

If Shepard considers you a good fit for the team then I would trust her word on the matter. Her outline of your skill sets certainly fit what we need. I will run you down the procedures and see if there's any gaps in knowledge that might potentially need to be covered. Otherwise, welcome to the team.

[ Yeah, this Spectre isn't quite as affable as his co-worker in full professional mode. Also, the stress might be wearing him a little. ]

[ Kelly Ann can't tell that he's tense. For all she knows, this is just how... this kind of alien is all the time. Who even knows what kind of emotions aliens feel. What if they're totally different and like, regulated by smell or something? ]

Um, ok. I don't know what exactly she told you about me, but I'm a roadie. I do like, stage crew stuff for a rock band. One of my tour managers was really particular about like, fire evacuation kind of stuff but I never had to use any of it. So. I mean, I'm totally willing to try and I'll do my best but. There's no potential gaps in knowledge here. I'm not really sure why she is so sure I'm qualified.

The unfortunate truth is, unexpected application of existing knowledge is a skill that you will need to foster. We have a lot to do, under very pressed circumstances, with a very limited number of people- and any contribution at all is valuable.

Qualified or not, we will just have to work with it.

[ There's a pause here, Nihlus' eyes searching the young human's face for a moment before he continues. ]

[ The intesnity of the stare wanes suddenly, and his strange, multi-layer voice was filled with a gentleness that hadn't been there before. ]

I trust Shepard's judgement.

[ Leaning back in his seat, he steeples his fingers together, elbows atop armrests. ]

On the subject of skills: any experience or training with combat?

[ Nihlus peers at Kelly Ann through the screen and she doesn't cringe, or wilt, or try to shuffle away. It's uncomfortable, and she fidgets a little, but she keeps her chin up and looks right back at him. And relaxes when he does. ]

Combat? [ She laughs. ] Uh, no.

[ Not unless you count schoolyard fistfights or tackling trespassing groupies. ]

Usually if things got serious we'd call security.

You'll still do the same thing here, but I would still recommend some basic combat training. We have had attackers before who didn't exactly take their time to distinguish between combatants and noncombatants.

[ The Caducans were assholes. ]

If you'd like, I can see who is available on that front?

[ Something about it all began to feel depressingly familiar. Like active shooter drills in school, or wondering if the pops you were hearing outside were firecrackers or gunfire. Kelly Ann nodded somberly. ]

Can't even get away from that shit in space, huh? Yeah, I'd rather know something than nothing.

It's, unfortunately, especially prevalent in this space. We've had a wide range of threats ranging from inter-dimensional murder creatures, an authoritarian mind-controlling policing force and revenge-happy eldritch horrors.

[ Isn't that a fun list? ]

I will find someone to mentor you on the subject, then. [ Someone with a bit more time and isn't running this project on top of sorting out Life Support. ] Thank you for your cooperation, Kelly Ann.

[ The more he talks, the wider Kelly Ann's eyes get. ]
