Video: Avagi Emergency Procedures
[ When the network lights up again, it's a vid post featuring a stripy, dark plated Turian. He's in some properly mucked up thermals and looking like he's been running on about an hour of sleep. ]
Nihlus Kryik. Life Support and Sanitation.
[ Is that a sufficient intro? Probably not. He's not really here for introductions at the moment anyways. ]
Now that the possible remnants of Ingress energy have opened up connections to other worlds again... It is probably to the benefit of most, if not all of us, to bring up the discussion of various Ingress traveling procedures. Including preparatory lock down drills, quarantine and the establishment of diplomatic relations.
This world may well be peaceful, but if these portals work anything like previous pieces of Ingress tech have, it's no guarantee that things will remain so in a month's time.
I, and a few other crew members, have gone around scouting out and marking off potential safe rooms in various sectors of Avagi. Setting them up further will have to be more of a community effort.
They will need to be fortified, stocked with supplies, and set on an independent air, water and power circuit. Security measures will need to be wired in and then we will need to review drill procedures, preferably on a monthly basis. We need a dedicated number of people who would be willing to take on the task of directing other crew members to these safe rooms, as well as instructing them on what to do in times of crisis.
Additionally, these rooms will double as containment units, should creatures like the Ploiatos appear again.
Quarantine procedures will also need to be set up. Before any attempts at Ingress exploration can happen: we need to establish whether or not the worlds we're entering through the portals are safe. If I can have the cooperation of people in medical on the matter, direction on this front would be thoroughly appreciated. At the very least, a quarantine zone in the immediate area around the shrines will need to be established. Everyone who enters and exits the tears will need to sign off with a date and time stamp as well as log anything you bring back with you to make tracking down any unpleasant passengers easier.
In a similar vein, I will be holding a seminar on First Contact situations in the Music Hall with the vague hopes of maintaining peace and diplomatic relations with any species on the other side. If at all possible, I sincerely hope you will attend. If you don't, I ask that you do your level best to not murder anyone or start unnecessary fights.
Unless they're into that.
Please.
Volunteers on all fronts would be more than welcome. Just note your desire to participate here, your area of specialty, whether or not you need training- and I will have you listed. Once everything is organized, you will be given a set of tasks to carry out as the projects go forwards. If you'd like more involvement than that, feel free to ask.
I've added two additional categories to the current voluntary signup form, which I've attached. Please use that as reference
Debate and discussion on the topic is also more than welcome. If you have suggestions, improvements, concerns or resources that you would like to share, this space is also open to such matters.

... Maybe?
Either way, 'big undertaking' is an understatement. At this point he can only gently nudge people to do things and hope they reinforce it among themselves. Restricting access was going to be infinitely trickier. It'd be like trying to herd a pack of pyjaks.
As it wasn't a concern he could address properly at the time being however, he listens to Clara as she runs down the list of suggestions instead. ]
That was about half our problem with with the Savrii to be honest.
[ Uuuugggh, there's that headache again. ]
I'm going set some sensors up and start getting atmospheric readings as soon as everything is ready. Then we'll send in the exploratory team. I'm going in, Rinzler's volunteered and I suspect Shepard will want in too. We'll see about getting you some kind of suit beforehand, just in case the local plants emit toxic pollen or something of the like.
[ Only potential problem is Rinzler, but he trusts Rinzler and he's going to be there . ]

[She smiles a little, pleased that he's taking her seriously and including her. She had thought she might have to talk fast and force her way into doing it, but he's gone and surprised her.]
Back to the matter of educating the general public of what's important before traveling...do you have any method of enforcing the rules? Any fear tactics that you think might work? Because even after the seminar, there's always the risk of...well, humans being human.
[There certainly are plenty of other species on board, but her innate fear is to worry about what the other humans will do. It's funny because she's one herself.]

I... will have to try and insist. We've had one too many worlds with dangerous flora and fauna and even a planet where the very air affected us to the point where time perception was altered. If nothing else, it'd save you from having to spend time in Medical.
[ He would prefer no one spend any time in medical at all, especially where avoidable. ]
As far as fear tactics go, they always have a higher chance of backfiring unpleasantly somehow over being particularly effective. That's not a type of flame I want to play with.
[ Fear tactics is how you get angry mobs and angry mobs was not good for a small, enclosed part of a dilapidated space station. ]
For now, we have Shiro's team and Rinzler at the Ingresses to deter entry. And, hopefully, most of the station's desire not to be inflicted by strange new diseases should be enough keep people from doing anything too rash for the time being.
Education can and will have to happen on a person-by-person basis as they go through for now, however. The seminar would probably have more attendance with some sort of reward but we're short on any supplies for that. Maybe if we put up some educational posters near the shrines? Videos?

I think you might be on to something with rewards.
[She still is prone to wanting to forbid people who don't attend the seminar from traveling through the Ingress, but that might be a bit militant.]
Or at least the idea of rewards. With how sparse things here are, promises of punch and pie might draw in one hell of a crowd.
[And if first contact goes well, it might be something they can easily get their hands on. Everyone loves food, right?]

Also, he's now the boyfriend of someone who happens to actually believe in people.
And, yeah, he'll... call Clara when he actually has the military might to back up that enforcement. ]
Food is nothing if not a tried and true method of getting into people's good graces, even without shortages, [ Nihlus agrees with an air of amusement. ] It does not, however, address the non-eating portion of the population, but...
[ Addressing multi-species problems is always a difficult task. ]
