[ the video feed flickers onto the face of an older gentleman; unflattering low angle, poor lighting, eyebrows hanging heavy over his eyes and lips tightly pursed. he's wearing a nice, heavy coat over a hoodie and a t-shirt featuring a sick ass space shark, though much of the ensemble's coated in a fine yellowish dust. looks like it could use a wash.
not his main concern right now. ]
Really? [ one corner of his mouth quirks up, wry. ] Cast across time and drifting lost and alone amongst storms of raw negative energy, but you've got social networking. How very... human, I bet a human knocked this up. D'you call it Spacebook or something?
[ original dad joke, do not steal. no apology is forthcoming.
the camera swings round, losing sight of him for a second as he sets the device down on something solid. re-adjusts it until it's centered properly on his face, steady now. ]
Hel-lo, Avagi. I'm the Doctor. Yes, just the Doctor. I arrived on your quaint little space station only recently — not the worst I've encountered. Well done. Probably... well, possibly not even in the bottom ten, but I mourn for some of your equipment. Someone made off with two-thirds of your laboratory, you realize, and ohhh, the state of your computers...
[ briefly aims the camera up at one of the aforementioned storms. ] But I must say, the open-plan observation station is a bold design.
[ casually tossing topics out as he rapidly approaches the actual purpose of this broadcast. this time he points at the screen, seriously, ]
Has anyone established themselves as your de facto leader yet? I'd like to know who to ignore.
The rest of you, tell me about the Ingress as it was, and the planets you've visited. Any of them.
[ over and out. ]

[That said, admittedly, their station was a junker. It just...wasn't really their fault. Bad investment.]
As for our 'leader'....depends on who you ask. The most likely candidate won't be copping to it anytime soon, don't worry.
no subject
I'm sure your terribly-maintained computer terminals aren't a reflection of your character.
Well, unless they are.
[ look, he thinks he's been rather kind??? considering the circumstances. he shrugs demonstratively. ]
What, not even a hint?

Tony Stark is pretty much the de facto leader of the lab, you can send all complaints his way. And also share in mourning for the lack of equipment.
[She leans back in the chair. This is getting precarious.]
And don't underestimate the power of social networking. How else can we bother everyone with our inane questions about things we only want to talk about in the abstract so no one can read deep into it?
no subject
[ he pantomimes as much. tony stark sucks, got it. ]
That's just it. Your answer to everything. [ a general, species-encompassing 'you.' he waves an arm in a wide arc. ] Plaster over your actual problems with vlogging and, and cat memes.
And now you've got me doing it, it's catching.
[ quelle horreur. ]

Welcome to the shitshow, Doc. You can call me Sans, Beetlejuice for short. Pleasure's all yours.
Just to keep you in the know, "Spacebook" was two cosmic prisons ago. The current iteration is worse. And you're gonna have to take me to dinner first if you want info on the Ingress.
[ That's his ex, it was a traumatic breakup. ]
no subject
Deal.
Have you actually got food here, or is this a tasteless compressed blocks of nutrients... [ eugh ] sort of situation?
[ possibly he forgot about eating for a few days, hasn't looked into it.

[Alan is somewhat bemused by the man’s tone. He certainly looks human himself, but then again, so do the station’s resident data manifestations. No use making assumptions.]
We’ve dealt with two Ingresses in the past. One on the planet we were on before this and one on the ship that brought us there. I can’t tell you much about either of them besides that they brought some people in, took others back home, and generally caused trouble.
To be honest, I’m not sure how we’re still getting newcomers given there isn’t one on this station.
no subject
Well, I know that I fell through some sort of crack in reality. Didn't have a chance to study it, as I was preoccupied with the falling bit at the time. But presumably your shattered portal left a few gaps in the multiverse.
Do you know anything about the people who built the Ingresses?

When you figure out who to ignore, let me know.
In all seriousness, though, we had nothing to do with designing this place. You could call it exile.
[You really couldn't, but somebody has been in a mood for a while.]
eternal video
So every one of you on this network was dropped here unwittingly by the Ingress... or the remains of it, I suppose?
[ that fact's becoming increasingly clear, really. ]

[At least, they can appreciate and give points for style, which is not a bad style. They'll never make it to the age he ostensibly is, but if they did, they'd like to emit that frankly impressive level of "fuck right off" vibes from the get-go.]
For someone who seems eschew leaders, you are doing an excellent someone who enjoys giving orders and expecting them to be followed.
no subject
Yeah, but I've no interest in leading your lot. Just a naturally commanding presence.
[ he gestures to his eyebrows, by way of explanation. they're extremely authoritative 'brows. ]
And they're rather simple questions.

And yeah, they got real inventive with the observation station. Didn't seem like the most calming place to hold meetings. I'd figure your average bureaucrat would faint dead away with not much more than the glorified air makin' up a force field between him and the storm.
Or herself, come to think of it. Don't wanna be bias.
[He's met some prissy ass bureaucratic women that think mighty highly of themselves.]
no subject
[ hard to tell if that's sincere or sarcasm.
his gaze wanders back up to the force field overhead and the roiling void beyond, lingering for a long moment. he seems to find the view fascinating, but not particularly worrisome, evidently. ]
Is that what this was? They shouldn't have been holding meetings on a space station in the first place, then. Metal walls may feel more secure, but nothing's completely foolproof out here.

Despite having her hands shoved in her pockets in an altogether casual fashion, there's something about the way her shoulder seem to pin themselves back automatically that suggests "military".]
Not even here five minutes here, and you're already scoring us on our efforts? Everyone's a critic.
[There's a clear undercurrent of humor in her tone, despite the deadpan.]
Welcome to Avagi, Doctor. I'm Shepard. If you've got any suggestions, I'm sure we're all ears.

I believe I said you're not in the bottom ten [ "probably"], it was nearly a compliment.
[ bordering on complimentary! take it. ]

None that I'm aware, I think there's just people with experience helpin' us along in the appropriate areas. You don't put a biologist in charge of security, right?
video
Besides, we've just got MedBay up and running, to an extent. Best not to explode it in the unfortunate clash of personalities that would this one and myself in a small space.
