[Off-screen, a freshly-bloomed arm hands her a book and Robin glances through it for a brief moment. It's her own notes, on the various crew members she's met on the ship, and right now she's looking up Nihlus's page.]

Ah, right. Facial markings are important to your species. What does it mean when someone is bare-faced?

[She hands the notebook back, so as to avoid seeming like she's taking notes. Rest assured, though: That's exactly what her arms are doing off-screen.]

[ MORE SHRUGGING. This is kind of uncomfortable. ]

Sometimes it's exile, but mostly it's that you weren't born to a 'proper' place. Homeless. Unloyal to anything or anyone.

[ He seems to shrink in on himself, fidgeting slightly. Technically, Nihlus wasn't born to a proper place either. He started wearing his paint again out of rebellion. ]

The Hierarchy folk equate them to politicians, but there's not actually a lot of their sorts in the upper tiers.

[ ... Wait, what is up with that hand? ]

[The subject is clearly making him uncomfortable, but she doesn't have any further pressing questions, so she'll let the kid be for now.]

This Saren sounds impressive, to overcome that.

[She means it. She knows what it's like to be homeless, and without loyalties - even if she wasn't strictly born that way. To overcome something like that... well, it's not nothing.]

Do you know why you have so many pictures of him?

Not a flipping clue. I mean, it seems to be future-me's omni-tool? So I guess I like, fucking work with him or something.

[ He scrolls through the archive, expression turning a mix of contemplative and confused. ]

There's so many pictures though.

[If Robin is honest, she'd like to see some of those pictures he keeps bringing up. But also, she's caught onto the time-warp nonsense that's going on here, and there's no way she's going to save pictures of alien butt somewhere that her past self can find them.]

You work with him? So... does that make you a Spectre as well, then?

HAH! I reeeaaaally fuckin' doubt it. Maybe his secretary or something.

[ It's only a few pictures of Saren's butt, really. Most of them were weirdly intimate moments of Saren gazing off into the sunset, or Saren drowsing off at a desk or something. That's kind of uncomfortable too, so Nihlus flips his omni-tool off. ]

[That earns the sort of small half-chuckle that tends to come when someone knows more than they're willing to share. She didn't know Nihlus that well, but he certainly didn't seem like the secretary type.]

Is that as high as your aspirations go?

Honestly, I'd take that over the hilarious downward spiral my military career's been taking. I mean, not that it was ever pointing upwards in any manner a' speaking, but hell.

[ Nihlus laughs, awkwardly rubbing his fringe. ]

A change of pace'd be nice. Plus, I get to tell people they're gonna meet Saren Arterius. It'll be hilarious.

I'm sorry to hear that.

[No she isn't. She hates the military, and she likes Nihlus. The fact that the two might not blend together well is perfectly fine news to her.

Still, though, her expression doesn't change much at all.]

If the military isn't working out for you, have you considered piracy?

Hahah, I guess, maybe? I'd be living up to pretty much every Outterworld colony stereotype ever, though.

[ And his mother would be awful disappointed.

Nihlus sets his mandibles against his jaw. ]

On the other hand, fuck it. They all think I'm merc trash anyways. Pirate isn't too far off and it sounds way more fun.

I'm not sure about fun, but where I come from it's how one seeks to be free.

[With freedom, though, comes some level of amusement. Robin's specific circumstances haven't exactly led to a carefree lifestyle, but she can recognize that a lot of other criminals have fun doing what they do.]

You want to be free, don't you?

[ He's not sure if he deserves to be free or what that would even really mean. Nihlus looks away for a brief moment before giving her an awkward shrug. ]

Nearly anything'd be better than where I was.
