Greetings!
[Did somebody order what looks and acts a lot like a greasy, glowing televangelist? Because that's what you've got, beaming and unctuous, and jittering with something suspiciously like nervous energy.]
Things certainly have adjusted around here recently, haven't they? Slap me with a harpoon and call me Ishmael.
...I mean, of course, that I welcome our new organic overlords with open arms.

[Cursor, cursor, cursor; how can there be someone who doesn't appreciate his amazing genius. That's not possible.]
Melville, man. Big honkin' book about a giant whale?
text; wink wonk
Whatever it is, I did not read it.
text; why sir~ i do believe i have the vapors~
No? It's a classic children's story, where I come from. Teaches the young to fear the Sea and all the dangerous monsters it teems with.
...Anyway, short version: we're all in for a heck of a ride.

I suspected as much.

Did you now! Greetings, fellow Earthling. Is life as a ninja exciting?
Indeed. We, ah, our captains sure are new, aren't they.
no subject
A little more exciting since I have just arrived to a ship with no real destination in outer-space.
I suppose they are. I did not know the old ones.

...I am Clu. Who's this?

Nick.

You buying?
[Nodding his hellos] Good to meet you. I am Clu.
video;
I guess the first round could be on me.

I'm so, so sorry]Wherever the heck we're going in this tub? That's gotta be the Moby at the end of the metaphor.

When a prolifically bad author and a mental image love each other very, very much, they share a special hug.
Now, during this hug, two things that normally have nothing whatsoever in common--say, love and roses, or vengeance and whales and spaceships- by-extension--are fused together, into one big beautiful lump of purple prose.
...That's how metaphors are born.

[Cursor, cursor, cursor...]
Tell me you've seen the movie.
Or. Jaws? At least Jaws.
text;
[ Also, Tex has been a bit busy to watch movies being a military operative her entire existence. ]
video;
...Which he won't use yet, but it doesn't stop him from sounding aggressive right off the bat. ]
I'm betting you could use more than just a slap.
[ Ahem. Dialling it back a bit. ]
Adjusted is one word for it.
video;
Why, tall, dark, and five o' clock shadow for weeks? [In his best do-me velvet:] You offering?
[No idea who this is, but unlike a human's guesses his are very exact: he knows what it's about. But if they're going to chat, there's no reason yet to be actively hostile.]
It certainly is that. Personally, I'm enjoying the break from the heat, but I hear it's uncomfortable for organics.
video;
Not in the way you seem to think.
[ More in the 'I would like to literally stab you with a harpoon' kind of way. Still, he manages to hold his glare and continues to bristle angrily. Even pretending to have some level of calm is impossible here with the number of feelings he has over what he's heard of Clu and what he's seen done by Clu. ]
Oh, you can register discomfort in others. Colour me impressed. I thought you might not know the meaning of the word.
Re: video;
Oh, I dunno about that. [He's practically purring.] Sounds like you wanna stick me pretty good.
[His head tilts left, then right, shoulders rolling in supreme unconcern. He gives great phone, warm and almost secretarial--and too precise to be at all personal. At the sound of the tone, the time will be...]
Noun: one. A lack of physical comfort.
Verb: one. To cause someone embarrassment, pain, or anxiety.
...Consequences, my newfound friend, are an entirely separate game.
video;
With a knife, maybe.
[ There's a smile, but it's taut. Mocking. Much more a sneer than a smile. He knows the geniality is all an act. Even if he didn't know who Clu was, he'd be uncomfortable just talking to him. ]
Right, clever. Give me the dictionary definition. Clearly I was being entirely literal about you not knowing the word. [ He'd roll his eyes, but he's too busy narrowing them. ]
And what, exactly, do you mean by consequences?
[ And he swears to god, if you define the word, he will hunt you down and punch you in that smug face of yours. ]
video;
Pity. [With a hard click of the tongue.] Still, that's what I figured you were really after.
I mean, if you're dead set on it, I welcome you to try.
Just, please, call me first. Sneak attacks are so overdone--and I don't sleep, not like you, so please don't ask me to do it with an eye open.
[Clu just gets more and more and more genial until he melts down in a rage, and he has quite a long way to go there, considering he doesn't even know this dude's name. He grins like a bear trap, big and wide and too, too shiny.]
Consequences are the natural product of threats, Cheekbones.
...Are you not threatening me? You having trouble making up your mind?
video;
[ As though he expects Clu to lament on why he might end up under attack at some point in the future. Actually talking to him now? Wash is doubting that he's the type to do so. Especially considering he's welcoming the idea of a fight.
Doesn't mean Wash isn't still heavily considering it, though. ]
No, my mind is pretty damn made.
[ He'd really like to punch that creepy smile off Clu's face. Does anyone buy this guy as anything but unsettling and Not Good? ]
And I'm not particularly worried about any consequences there might be here. So, yeah, I'm threatening you. Seems about time someone did.
video;
[No regrets. Less than zero. However, new analytic vectors have presented themselves.
...It's better if those remain concealed for now.]
Babe, if you think it's my first time, I really don't know what to say.
video;
Oh, I don't think it's your first time.
[ That seems like it would be a massive misread. No, no, he's sure Clu has been threatened before. ]
I just think you're getting off easy around here.
video;
Easy? You say such interesting things.
There is one law here, and I have not broken it. How have I gotten off easy?
video;
[ Why go into specifics when you can be vague? Wash is fantastic at being cryptic. ]
I don't care if you haven't killed. All actions should have consequences.
video;
Is there a better way of bringing them?
[ Answer: no. He has full intentions of bringing consequences Clu's way, though he has yet to go out of his way to do so.
Largely because of the one law on the ship. ]
Hopefully you're prepared; when we cross paths, I'm going to be a lot less friendly.
video;
He has not had a volunteer for Games in a very, very long time.
The rule is very old, older than the ship and its one law, older than Clu himself, older even than Flynn's Grid.
It's half a process, code-deep, ringing down into the backfile: Best program I ever wrote. Dogged and relentless. No 'but'; that's for Users.]
Wonderful! You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that.
...You've already seen what I can do. Believe me, I'll be waiting.

I take it you like our new Captain?
[Hi, roomie, nice to see you.]
no subject
I am definitely interested, that is for sure.
Where've you been hiding yourself, my man? Get into any good scrapes lately?
no subject
[They never do seem to cross paths, do they?] Oh, you know, I've been around. Here and there. Staying out of trouble. [Lies.] Haven't seen you around much either, though. Don't like the room?
