I've not had the chance to bring it up. However, a while ago I added some competitive programs to the training simulation room. They're meant to give people another healthy outlet for conflict and hostile energy as well as improve skills as matched by an opponent.

There are several games as well as the option to customize your own. There are also two settings. One "honest" where cheating will absolutely not be tolerated. One "deceptive" where cheating is so long as the AI referees don't catch you and you don't cause serious harm to your opponent. Surprisingly, both have their merits.

This is also a reminder that you can get hurt in there. It is possible, so ask a Med Bay staff member if to come along if necessary.

That said, I'd like to speak to someone on the medical staff if you have the time. At least I'll have a better idea of who people can request aid from while I'm at it. But I understand with recent changes you might have to wait.

Kids get hurt from every kind of conflict, political or otherwise. [ though maybe that's just bitterness from his own world. it's all he knows, really, so there's not much else to say about it. ] At least you try.

See you.

[ he'll be showing up in the training room ten or so minutes later, used to the trek by now that he didn't get lost, and spends some time poking around, looking at what others are doing, while he waits. ]

[ Andyr's much less put together, uniform worn, because it's all he has that isn't blood stained and ripped up, but not as ordered as it should be. Jacket open, shirt untucked, sleeves rolled up, hair relatively messed, not to mention the dust from the vents painting his knees, legs and forearms. Relatively young at 24, acts younger, and with a complete lack of any manner of shyness as he looks over the man who approaches, brow lifted a bit at the sunglasses inside a dimmed room.

Either way, he squints for a moment at the request for what formal greeting they're going for, as if he hasn't had a handshake in years (spoilers, he hasn't), but eventually offers an open hand forward, somewhat cautiously. ]

Right, Andyr. Bowing would be weird. [ please don't bow, he's barely getting used to people talking to him like a human. ] Miller?

[ Where he'd been, peacock pretty was the enforced norm, and as most teenagers and bitter captive do, he's rather aggressively against the concept as a whole these days. The uniforms were just nice enough to offend his sensibilities. ]

Urban. [ An answer given after a moment of thought, though he frowns, glancing a bit sidelong at the man, the fact he'd asked him pertinent. ] Who is it you're fighting?

[ He'd wanted to see him fight, yes, but not him. As a general rule, Andyr doesn't tend to spar anymore, both for the reflexes he has now being a problem, and for the life he doesn't like remembering these days. ]

[ "Looks ancient" is the first thing that comes to Andyr's mind as he sees the arena setting load, but he's having to remind himself, most are from about 1,000 years before his time. Of course it looks ancient to someone from 3451. In a miraculous moment of sudden onset tact, he keeps the comment to himself.

It doesn't, however, extend to the moment Miller's coat comes off, and Andyr's eyes snap to the bizarre prosthetic of an arm, reaction automatic. ]
Shit. Is that tech?

[ Or weird space magic like Hawke was talking about? Of all the things they do have in 3451, he hasn't seen something quiet like this. Then again, you can get actual arms from clones or just new bodies in his time, so prosthetics are a bit aged in general. ]

[ Some day they'll have to have a chat about clones, and all that's fucked up that comes along with it.

Watching Miller head into the simulation, Andyr's glancing one way and the other, like he's not sure what to do, before pacing in along with him. Why not. Lifting his eyes, he skims along the interior of the room, looking back to the arm held up again. ]
Never really thought about how it worked. Seems cool.

So you can still fight with that? [ after all, the sims are real enough to give the full combat experience, so if it's the same tech, it should work, right? despite the time he's from, Andyr's more clueless on technology than anything else. ]

[ crossing his arms, andyr paces away some, giving the man his space, and nodding as he explains how this'll be going. though there is something he gives a wry kind of chuckle at. ]

You and I come from very different places.

[ stealth, the luxury of having the option for it, non-lethality and holding people for information. then again, he was leader of a military force, so that all makes sense. it just isn't anything he has any kind of experience in. ]

Don’t be too excited, it’s not that fun of a story.

[ which could either mean it’s boring, or it’s really horrible. Unfortunately, it’s the latter, but andyr’ll probably leave out the details unless prompted for them.

He gives a short nod, signalling he understands, and watches a Miller sets to work, closely observing what all he picks up or gets to. How he moves, what he’s looking at, the process of it, as he thinks on trying to learn this later. While it isn’t the norm for him, it doesn’t hurt to train it.

The idea of having another coach or trainer, though, sits oddly with him. It’s been ages since he’d been in any kind of formal training program, and back then, it was always his dad. However, Miller seems more interested in giving advice rather than anything more personal, so maybe it won’t feel that weird. ]

[ Andyr's watching closely as Miller works, either following behind him, or watching from the binoculars, trying not to interrupt, but intently taking mental note, as someone who's been under instruction on this sort of thing before would.

He came from a military family, son of a Marine spec ops officer and secondly a martial arts school owner, and it's easy for him to fall back into the role of student, when he wants to. It's a measure surprising, really, how easy he finds it, after six and a half years of feeling barely human. while he'd been taught plenty by his father, andyr's by no means a soldier (his dad hadn't wanted him to be), but a quick study he is, and if nothing else, the years in hapsburg taught him to be observant of every last detail.

the man is absolutely skilled in covert operations, and andyr's wondering if perhaps he should try learning more about stealth. there's cameras everywhere in the Houses, but maybe he could learn ways around them. make sabotage and escape a measure easier than just cutting through floods of guards.

when Miller gets back to him, Andyr's crouched down, with forearms rested on bent knees, looking down at the sprite. ]

Maybe not, but damn impressive. Wouldn't mind seeing what frontline conflict looks like some day, though. [ not necessarily now, he'd just gotten done with an intense mission. ]

[ For as hyperactive and distracted as Andyr can be, he's paying fairly rapt attention to this man, a certain respect granted to him for the skills he has, and the manner he conducts himself in. Nothing overstated, down to business, straight forward. And with a want to help. Perhaps that part's the largest. ]

JSDF - Japanese, right? Sorry, I never been outside New Orleans.

[ And there is a bit of an accent sticking to his words, urban but a bit southern. He isn't as educated about international military set ups, as his dad had tried to keep him mostly away from those things, but he knows some just from school. Enough to recognize.

As for showing him his own skill set, after watching Kaz go through his mission, Andyr's a bit jazzed. ]

I can do it now, if you're not busy. Got nowhere better to be. [ Honestly, he's likely to hang around and run a sim either way, given he's a little worked up now, and keeping that pent up has never been good for him, and could be disastrous on this ship.] Probably nothing stealth, though, I'm not great at it.

[ his combat scenarios have all be very, very specific in circumstance in the last six and a half years, and before that, all he knew were martial arts tournaments. not the best resume, but he's at least very good at this one thing he does. ]

Never been. I hear it’s pretty there. [ In Japan in general. He’s also heard of some pretty fucked up Houses set up there, but he’s trying not immediately go to Mice when he thinks of other worlds. They aren’t like his. Most aren’t fucked up yet. Not as badly, at least.

Though, on the topic of what setting he’s suited to, it’s very hard not to go straight to the Houses, as that’s where near all of his real combat experience comes from. ]

Enclosed space, building interior like hallways, no weapons.

[ he supposed clubs, tasers or tranq guns would make sense, but that’s getting more specific than he wants. And he’d rather not have an Episode right now by getting too accurate. ]

Enemy swarms, keep ‘em coming. [ he’s used to starting with a group, with more groups on their way. ]
