[ Give a teenager a video function and a captive audience and it's only so long before they abuse the privilege. ]
You know, this kind of transdimensional grab bag usually sets off a few alarm bells. Integrity of the space time continuum, multiples of the same person in the same space affecting Reality As We Know It, blah blah blah. This is pretty low key. Like hi, welcome to your new home, here's a really ugly uniform, a job and a room assignment. Don't mind the teenagers necking in your room, that's just a thing.
[ Who's bitter, not her. ]
One thing I do like? Crew roster. Nice, simple way to check to see if there's anyone familiar; archenemies, familiar code names, family members from different dimensions who might not know who you are, ex-boyfriends who need to get their teeth punched in... [ She was making a point here. ]
Some of you need to work on your code names, though. Like I get being part of a legacy, but we have like five different Snakes. Five. [ More like three, but she's not gonna let a silly thing like facts stop her. ] That's way too many snakes for this ship. Venom I get, it sounds like someone who probably runs around Gotham and changes their alignment every day of the week, but whatever, I guess if Catwoman can, you can too. Live the dream. The other two need to flip a coin or something.
Or, wild idea, but go with me on this: pick another animal, be your own hero and/or villain, break free of the legacy cycle! You know who never looks stressed out? Heroes who aren't part of a legacy.

[Because there were at least four other people with the word Snake in their name.]

Ahab works, though, I guess you're exempt.

they're not even the same person, just from an alternate dimension or something like that. they're just different people, with the same. exact. face.
[As far as Ratchet's concerned, that is the weirdest part of the multiverses colliding. And just plain cruel for anyone who isn't human and trying to tell them apart. Humans too.]

I'd hope so, like I told the other guy: anybody who seriously names their kids that shouldn't be having kids.
Code names are just as important, that's like your whole other life.

[Is Miller a little defensive of his friend? Maybe.]
"Snake" has a history behind it for them, too. They have names. It's just more than have something picked out. In a military codename sense, in their case, look at it like a surname.

Okay, fine. I maybe get that. Maybe. We have code names a little like that back on my Earth too.

[Whoops, guess who lied and told the ship that her name was 'Jaguar D. Clover?' This girl.
For a moment she thinks she's being called out about it, but is relieved to learn that Kara is talking about some other people with fake names.]

But, on the other hand, teenager. And she kind of has a point, about breaking away from a legacy. Snake and Liquid had both been named for Big Boss, and even Venom has had that title foisted on him.
Then again, it's not that simple. ]
The code name was assigned to me years ago. [ He gives a small shrug. ] After a while, it just kind of sticks. Even if I tried to change it, most people would still keep using it. [ Back home, anyway. Here he could have his own name, but what does a name really mean? He's not exactly interested in giving out his real one. Better to maintain that level of confusion, as far as he's concerned. ]
So it is a legacy thing though, right? Like somebody had that name before you guys.

[Says the girl on the team of former sidekicks who definitely modeled her superhero identity after her dad.]
But more importantly, did you just name drop Gotham and Catwoman?
[Yes that is totally the vital part of this broadcast.]
video
[Don't be heartfelt when she's being rude, it makes her feel bad, jeez. But more importantly!! ]
Sure did. Wait, do you know both those things?

[He doesn't neck, thank you. He's barely used to smooching. Also, he's not particularly prone to shame...
He does, however raise an eyebrow.]
Heroics, yes? We have a Venom in our universe, although he rarely changes alignment and he's mostly centralised in New York. They're usually crazy- and evil, for that matter. We also don't have any place called Gotham, so I'm supposing you're from an entirely different universe.
no subject
[She is suffering, don't force your affectionate couple shenanigans on her. ]
Probably. It seems like I'm the Lone Ranger or something for my universe. [ Even the people who are supposed to know her don't know her. Which totally doesn't bother her. At all. ] We didn't have a Venom, but this one doesn't exactly scream supervillain, ya know? Ignore whatever he says about being a living weapon.
