01- Video
[ Give a teenager a video function and a captive audience and it's only so long before they abuse the privilege. ]
You know, this kind of transdimensional grab bag usually sets off a few alarm bells. Integrity of the space time continuum, multiples of the same person in the same space affecting Reality As We Know It, blah blah blah. This is pretty low key. Like hi, welcome to your new home, here's a really ugly uniform, a job and a room assignment. Don't mind the teenagers necking in your room, that's just a thing.
[ Who's bitter, not her. ]
One thing I do like? Crew roster. Nice, simple way to check to see if there's anyone familiar; archenemies, familiar code names, family members from different dimensions who might not know who you are, ex-boyfriends who need to get their teeth punched in... [ She was making a point here. ]
Some of you need to work on your code names, though. Like I get being part of a legacy, but we have like five different Snakes. Five. [ More like three, but she's not gonna let a silly thing like facts stop her. ] That's way too many snakes for this ship. Venom I get, it sounds like someone who probably runs around Gotham and changes their alignment every day of the week, but whatever, I guess if Catwoman can, you can too. Live the dream. The other two need to flip a coin or something.
Or, wild idea, but go with me on this: pick another animal, be your own hero and/or villain, break free of the legacy cycle! You know who never looks stressed out? Heroes who aren't part of a legacy.

Oh, that. It's kind of a thing in my world. A lot of the people in the community I'm in have code names, but there's a lot of weird rules and stuff that go with it.
no subject
[ No, she's pretty sure it's not a cult. Archenemies, heroes and villains — look, she's read a comic before. It's no stretch to assume there are people who really do that kind of thing. But it says a lot more to hear Kara describe what she does than to guess. ]

I just re-read that and that does sound like a cult. I mean, Diana gets that crap all the time about Themyscira and it's bullshit, but no. Superheroes.
no subject
i'd say that makes way more sense but
you know. not really a thing where i'm from
so do you have a code name? do we all get code names? i made myself an esquire but i could do with a good code name too
no subject
[Superboy Prime, if she remembers right, was from one. No wonder that jerk was so messed up. ]
It's Supergirl. I don't know how getting a code name works, we usually use them in the field instead of real names, because a lot of people have secret civilian identities. I guess all the Snakes are military?? Like weird special class military, it actually sounds like superhero shit.
no subject
i could see signing up for the military. even weird special class kind, like. i guess i could get how you get there. what i don't get is how you fall into superheroing. superheroics. did you take an aptitude test in high school or was it like a hobby or
humour me i'm considering a career change
no subject
Superheroing is so weird, honestly. Like most of the kids I know with superpowers got into it because we have superpowers. Duh, right? But there's a bunch of other kids and I guess young adults who don't have superpowers, but they're all mixed up in there with us heavy hitters. I don't know, it's like a weird adoption thing. Everybody's in teams and families and stuff.

does anyone ever just say "fuck it" and use their powers for themselves? like not supervillainy, just maybe having a really average life but sometimes you can turn invisible when you have to
no subject
Sometimes? Not really? I mean, people quit the business sometimes, but it seems like most of them go full civilian. I've tried it, but I don't know. There's expectations and after awhile it's like what else am I supposed to do? It's not like anybody in high school's going to get what it's like being able to like break the sound barrier or stop cars with your bare hands.
Plus there are a lot of crazy people who'll go after you if they know you've got powers.

[ sorry kaz, bro ]
you don't seem too worried about people knowing
no subject
Yeah, I'm stronger than just about anybody in the room at any given time. That does a lot for a girl's confidence. Also I really really suck at secret identities. Like really. You almost have to be this whole other person and it's weird.
no subject
[ Whoops. ]
especially with facebook and twitter and everything, you'd think someone would put it together
strength, though? is that your thing? like could you bench a car
no subject
Yeah, totally, cars are no big. I have't ever tested out the max, but I can deadlift a couple tons. The invulnerability helps.
no subject
could you lift one of those?
