TAB - Video
[ When the video clicks on, immediately the scene on display is a modest sized farmhouse with what look like orchards in the distance. From the fairly temperate looking climate a good guess would be that this is on Kauto.
The video turns about, giving a flash of a large block of wood and what looks like smaller pieces scattered around it. Good guess is that someone is chopping wood but has taken a break for the moment. This is born out when Adrien's face comes into the feed, the doctor is dressed in a t-shirt rather than his usual uniform.
Slightly out of breath, his dark hair is plastered to his face at the temples and forehead. Yep, someone has been chopping wood, rather aggressively if the sweat is anything to go by. ]
I'll keep this short and to the point. [ Par for the course. ] For what it's worth to those you who are accident prone or otherwise given to ending up injured, I've applied for duties at the local hospital in Region One. [ He doesn't expect he's the only one but he'll let Angela and Alva speak for themselves. ]
I'm also -and I can't believe these words are leaving my mouth- using some of the equipment salvaged from the MedBay on the Moira to equip a private practice here at this location. [ He made a vague motion in the direction of the house. ]
If anyone feels more comfortable ... [ These words are delivered in a neutral, non-judgmental tone. The Savrii have been nothing but generous to this point and this is not to suggest there is a problem. Rather, he knows what it's like to be paranoid as fuck. ] ... well, what's the saying? The devil you know?
[ Pausing for a drink of water, he fiddles for a moment with the bottle, before gazing up and over the top of the device, his eyes obviously scanning the landscape for something. He takes a breath, stops the words but then quickly finishes. ]
Uhhm ... I'm not sure, who else is on Kauto but ... has anyone happened to seen Courser in the past couple of days?
[ Though his tone is level, to anyone who knows him well, there is a definite edge of anxiety in his voice and in his expression. ]

[ The fact that he quietly admitted this fact might be telling in and of itself. ]
I have no idea how long he might be gone, Elena. I imagine Nate would eventually mind.
[ It's supposed to be a light hearted comment but it probably falls flatter than a bad souffle; if only because it's not an immediate demure of the offer. ]

[ A smile was offered. ]

Bring a loaf of bread, you can be my first test subject.

[ And then she laughed, pausing. ]
Just so we're clear - today's going to be a non-combat day? No surprise attacks?

[ It actually takes him a moment to process her question, that is how distracted he is, but once he does he gives his head a shake. ]
No, my focus is shit right now, I wouldn't risk one of us getting injured.
[ She was safe from surprise ambush.
For today at least. ]

[ She was already beginning to move on her end. ]
If anything else comes up, message or call me.
action?
What was the point of having a clinic if people couldn't find it in case of an emergency?
The road was a bit long up to the house, winding through the orchards displaying various species of apples. The previous owner had kept the land tidy, it would be up to Adrien to maintain that level of grooming.
The doors to the house stood wide open -a combination of expecting Elena and hope that Courser would return soon- and as she approached the door, Elena's nose might lead her towards the kitchen. True to his word, Adrien had no surprise attacks in mind. He was, in fact, puttering in the kitchen hovering over what smelled like a red wine based beef broth.
Well, at least that explained the request for bread? ]

Taking the road up by foot had been good. A good walk that had led through some wonderful scenery. It was a major change from the Region 1; quieter, less busy. It was peaceful. It gave her time to breathe in deep and relax. Not worry about a muddy cat, not worry about three alien children. Just take a moment to herself.
She had everything in her pacdisk for her stay, a bottle of water in hand.
Approaching the structure that was no doubt where the good doctor lived, it was beautiful. The architecture reminded her of the older country homes scattered around the English countryside, especially the brickwork and windows. Entering it brought on a cozier feel, surprised and yet not with how he'd kept it decorated.
Elena had never seen much of his room on the ship. She'd only ever known him to spend most of his time in medical, either the bay or the tent when they'd been stationed on the ground.
A deep inhale, nose tipping up to catch the scent that was wafting out into the hall, she removed her shoes and followed it to stop in the doorway of the kitchen, brows lifting. ]
I'm almost tempted to ask if I'm at the right place.

The one corner that Adrien kept strictly to himself, his bed, might have given her a hint of what he would do with a home. For a man who barely slept more than a handful of hours at a stretch, his bed had always been cozy. Piled high with pillows, blankets and luxurious sheets, it had been a peaceful haven; a soft hideaway that was, perhaps, at odds with the hard man who inhabited it.
Or -perhaps- an indicator that the 'hard' man wasn't quite who he tried to portray.
Regardless, the house was comfortable and cozy. While tidy, there were definitely hints of a 'lived in' atmosphere, rather than a display case where you were afraid to sit for fear of leaving a hair out of place. Oddly designed to be welcoming, from a man who spent so much of his time snarling to keep people at a safe distance.
Windows stood open, letting fresh air and the sounds of ... whatever lived outside in the orchard in to fill the house with a backdrop of noise. Adrien clattering about in the kitchen was perhaps a bit discordant to the peaceful noises of nature but ... at least it smelled good?
Looking up from where he'd been peering in the deep pan, he didn't smile -he never smiled- but there was a welcome in his blue eyes. Though they were pinched at the side, an expression of his distress over the missing bahari. ]
Ha. Ha. [ Adrien remarked, though there was no heat in the words; he could understand what she meant. ] I'd ask if you had any trouble finding the place but I suspect you'd almost rather I'd made it more of a challenge.
[ As he spoke, he waved her in, motioning towards one of the comfortable bar chairs set up around the island. Despite his stress over Courser's disappearance, there was a definite sense of welcome, that was extended to her specifically. Though he didn't tend to let people in close, once he did drop some of the walls, there was a thoroughness to his manner that was all inclusive.
And she'd earned her way past those walls. ]
Wine?

[ She set her bottle of water on the surface of the island as she slid up onto the seat, brushing hair off her brow, settling in to peer around the kitchen. It was so open, it reminded her of the apartment she'd had before shipping out to Yemen. ]
It was a nice walk. I particularly enjoyed walking through the trees.
[ And still there'd been no sign of Courser, which she could make out at the corner pinches of Adrien's eyes, how he moved. ]
How are you holding up?

I'm ... trying not to get stuck in an endless loop of 'what ifs', combined with the natural desire to obsess on the negative possibilities.
[ It went without saying that minute by minute sometimes he had better luck with this than others.
For the moment, he set down the glass and poured her a healthy splash of red from one of the bottles he'd opened to cook with. No need to fear that it was bottom of the barrel, cheap; he would never cook with cheap wine.
It was, in fact, rather good wine and suggested that it had possibly cost a pretty penny. Odd -maybe- for someone who didn't drink the stuff.
Setting the glass in front of her and the bottle close at hand as well, he went back to peering into his soup pot. ]
It just needs another fifteen minutes, to finish cooking the vegetables and then it should be ready. Did you bring the bread?
no subject
[ She reached into her pac for what he'd asked for, retrieving it and passing it over. ]
Here we go.
[ It was then that she reached for the wine, lifting it to breathe in its scent before testing with a slow sip. Mm, not bad. He knew how to pick out a good wine. ]
I understand that. I went through that a lot back home. But I'm almost positive Courser will return home.

Distracting himself with the simple act of cutting the bread -seriously he didn't need to be slicing it on a bias but he was fidgeting- he spun the knife handle in his hand a couple of times. ]
The first time, we witnessed young bahari just ... take off, less than half of them came back alive.
[ He looked up at her and then seemed to consciously force himself to stop fidgeting with the knife and just cut the damn bread. It really was ridiculous to stand there and try to discuss vegetables, when they both knew what was on his mind. ]
And he didn't have the best start to begin with. [ He paused as he finished with the bread and set the knife down. Then he looked back up at her and this time his eyes stayed focused. ]
For what little comfort it might be, Nate couldn't be better at what he does.
