TAB - Video

[ When the video clicks on, immediately the scene on display is a modest sized farmhouse with what look like orchards in the distance. From the fairly temperate looking climate a good guess would be that this is on Kauto.

The video turns about, giving a flash of a large block of wood and what looks like smaller pieces scattered around it. Good guess is that someone is chopping wood but has taken a break for the moment. This is born out when Adrien's face comes into the feed, the doctor is dressed in a t-shirt rather than his usual uniform.

Slightly out of breath, his dark hair is plastered to his face at the temples and forehead. Yep, someone has been chopping wood, rather aggressively if the sweat is anything to go by. ]

I'll keep this short and to the point. [ Par for the course. ] For what it's worth to those you who are accident prone or otherwise given to ending up injured, I've applied for duties at the local hospital in Region One. [ He doesn't expect he's the only one but he'll let Angela and Alva speak for themselves. ]

I'm also -and I can't believe these words are leaving my mouth- using some of the equipment salvaged from the MedBay on the Moira to equip a private practice here at this location. [ He made a vague motion in the direction of the house. ]

If anyone feels more comfortable ... [ These words are delivered in a neutral, non-judgmental tone. The Savrii have been nothing but generous to this point and this is not to suggest there is a problem. Rather, he knows what it's like to be paranoid as fuck. ] ... well, what's the saying? The devil you know?

[ Pausing for a drink of water, he fiddles for a moment with the bottle, before gazing up and over the top of the device, his eyes obviously scanning the landscape for something. He takes a breath, stops the words but then quickly finishes. ]

Uhhm ... I'm not sure, who else is on Kauto but ... has anyone happened to seen Courser in the past couple of days?

[ Though his tone is level, to anyone who knows him well, there is a definite edge of anxiety in his voice and in his expression. ]

[ The TAB is set up on ... who the fuck knows, but angled so that Adrien can talk as he swings an axe at wood. ]

Allowing for the fact that it took a day to get used to the 22/8 cycle [ he remarked, lining a log up and slamming the blade through the end in a clean cut. ]

Approximately 80 hours by now.

Is that normal for him? I mean, back in the other area we were in, did he disappear there for a bit?

[ He must've been good or else Adrien would've addressed the network as well then. ]

Maybe it's because of the region, the fields, all of the space for running?

[prorenataa]

Not for an extended period time like this. [ Adrien confirmed what Elena was already working out for herself. ] Even if he just came by to check in, so to speak, like when I was stoned out of my mind back on that one planet, he's never gone this long before.

[ Another long was split under a vigorous stroke, though the doctor was decidedly listless as he just pushed the two logs off to the side. ]

These orchards are filled with a strange, rabbit like creature. He has no need to wander far for prey. Besides, I can't even find prints.

[ And you can bet he's combed every corner of his property looking for them. ]

Eighty hours is a long time...

[ She chewed on her bottom lip for a moment in thought and watched him in a dragging silence as he continued to chop wood. ]

Do you want me to come by? I can keep you company until he makes an appearance, I know Nate won't mind.

[prorenataa]

It is a long time.

[ The fact that he quietly admitted this fact might be telling in and of itself. ]

I have no idea how long he might be gone, Elena. I imagine Nate would eventually mind.

[ It's supposed to be a light hearted comment but it probably falls flatter than a bad souffle; if only because it's not an immediate demure of the offer. ]

It'll be fine. You can give me a tour of the new place, I'm sure just seeing on the TAB doesn't do it justice.

[ A smile was offered. ]

[ There was a small pause, as he wrestled with his natural urge to retreat and his more reasonable lessons learned about how it was a bad habit. After a moment, he nodded and even glanced over at the TAB. ]

Bring a loaf of bread, you can be my first test subject.

[tearsinajar]

Loaf of bread, got it. Need anything else from my part of town?

[ And then she laughed, pausing. ]

Just so we're clear - today's going to be a non-combat day? No surprise attacks?

[prorenataa]

The bread should do. Make it something crusty, if they have it.

[ It actually takes him a moment to process her question, that is how distracted he is, but once he does he gives his head a shake. ]

No, my focus is shit right now, I wouldn't risk one of us getting injured.

[ She was safe from surprise ambush.

For today at least. ]

[ Helloooo, neighbor. He'll file away that bit of information. Always good to know where the nearest doctor is who won't demand a paper trail. ]

Ain't seen 'im, but I'll keep an eye out.

If your prices are about the same as public services, I would rather have a doctor that's familiar with my health issues.

[He hates being analyzed by more than one person, really.] Though I would have to commute, most likely.

I have a feeling you're going to get a lot of business at this private clinic. Most of the people around here are pretty paranoid.

[He says it like a joke, but he knows where he'd head first if he was injured again.]

A fact that I suspect we'll both be grateful for.

[ Paperwork is disgusting. ]

Thank you, I appreciate it.

[ Neighbors? He has neighbors? The orchards are so well established that honestly, he could see past them to identify any neighbors. Though he would probably come to appreciate the fact that he was surrounded by people he knew. ]

My price is coffee. Hot, fresh with cream.

[ See, cheap! ]

Did you settle on the other planet?

[ Adrien had set the TAB up so that he could talk to people, while still working on the woodpile. He was struggling with a particularly difficult log, the maul stuck half way down the fissure so he had to beat the entire thing to try to get it loose. ]

Good thing [ whap whap ] there are still a few of the Moira staff around.

[ WHAP!

Adrien had to quickly duck as one of the sides of wood split and shot back over his shoulder.

.... ]

But, yeah. I figured that some of our group might feel more comfortable with the people they know; at least for a little while.

[ Given Snake's closeness to Angela, he hadn't spent much time considering where he'd be getting his medical services. All the same, it's good to keep in mind that there's someone else to reach out to in the case of an emergency, especially given that he'll be living in region one himself.

More than that, though, Snake's reason for responding has to do with Adrien's missing pet. Snake had gotten to know Courser, at least a little, during that long walk to the Midway Hub. It's not encouraging to hear that Adrien hasn't seen him in a while. They'd seemed close, bonded. ]

When's the last time you saw him? [ Snake keeps his expression neutral, knowing he doesn't need to add to Adrien's concerns. ]

I think that I could manage that. It would help if I could get my hands on beans as good as the ones I could get in Colombia and Costa Rica. They had some of the best coffee and black teas there.

I settled in another region.

[What can he say, you get used to living off the grid when the grid shorts out, falls apart, and is slowly reclaimed by encroaching wilderness and the living dead.]

You takin' up farming?

At the moment I'm taking up 'reading a book and staring uselessly at a bunch of trees'.

I've actually never seen a farm in my life.

[ For that matter, he hadn't been too familiar with trees. This was all, very new and were it not for a certain missing bahari, his attention would probably be completely focused on the wonder of it. ]

Have you asked around? These worlds, at least this one, seems very rich in ... growing things.

[ Strangely enough, despite his anxiety over courser and his habitual growl, there was a sense of almost child-like wonder in his tone. ]
