I'd like to speak with anyone who's interested in coordinating a structured response to the recent disappearances. If we pool our resources in terms of anything technical that needs to be done, and in terms of things like creating small teams and scheduling the usage of rescue vehicles, things will probably run more smoothly. Retrieving as many people as possible is of paramount importance.

Those of you who have experience in search and rescue, on-the-ground stealth, investigation, intelligence work, and programming and electronics would probably be the most useful… but if that doesn't include you, and you're interested, there should certainly still be a way for you to help. I realize that many of you probably already have ideas about how to proceed, but it couldn't hurt to discuss them so that we don't interfere with each other.

To begin with: if you're able to make contact with anyone who's missing, see if they can capture and send some images of their general surroundings -- but only if they can do so without being seen and can preferably send the results privately. Having that kind of information ahead of time could be overwhelmingly valuable.

Let's do whatever we can.

I can start working on a tracking program to help find the people who went missing, but without any sort of mapping data, it’s going to be pretty rudimentary. The best I could do is a program that can show the relative position of a missing person’s MID in relation to the user, but they’d have to be in range for it to work.

I could do a lot more with even basic maps of these places.

It sounds like coming and going from there shouldn't draw too much attention. What if someone flew in close enough to get some kind of aerial map?

The Lantern isn't a transporter. She's fast enough, though if I can get help with the engine I might be able to do better.

I'm not an engineer. She works fine but I can't make her give all she's got on my own.

Unfortunately, I'm not an engineer either. [His tone becomes thoughtful: he's obviously going through a mental list.] Mr. Stark seems to be indisposed, and Luke Skywalker seems to be gone entirely... have you taken this up with Mr. Rinzler? He may be able to point you towards someone who can help.

How's your skill as a pilot?

That could work. If we have multiple pilots to spare, the more we can get out mapping the area, the better. [Time's of the essence; if this place is as bad as the captains say, they need to work quickly.] Especially if we’re dealing with more than one planet.

Aside from their vulnerability, that's another reason why it would be better to accomplish this as soon as possible. If this is a way station, and some of the people who have been lost are enslaved, it's hard to say how long we have to help any of them. If someone is especially unlucky, they could be taken away in a matter of hours or days.

How long would it take you to work on the preliminary aspects of your program? Everything up to the maps.

[It's an acknowledgement, and L's voice is a little warmer than the businesslike tone he's been using in most other conversations so far. He's pleased that Niko is available and interested: everything he's seen so far suggests that the other man might be a valuable connection.]

That's an excellent idea. Anything borrowed... temporarily or permanently... will have to be checked from top to bottom for trackers, however. We wouldn't want to lead their owners here.

[If the area is as bad as the captains claim, it seems likely that the "owners" may have acquired vehicles in exactly the same way.]
