Okay, so. I have some matters I'd like to bring up. If you've not met me, I'm Doc Yewll. I'm not always going to be nice to you but I will try to fix what's wrong with you. There are other doctors that have more patience than me, refer to them if you have to.

On to business.

The Med Bay still needs some repair. I'd say with a little help everything could be up and running within a few days but it does mean people with technical parts and anyone in need of surgery are going to hold off for treatment. Useful salvage to that end would be a miracle.

Also that station's infirmary has a neat trick of offering up complete medical histories. If you would be willing, please send me what you can of yours privately. I'm not going to sneak around and try to get it, but if I have a complete medical run down it means I can better help you in the future if related problems come up. Just don't grab anyone else's if that's the case. Just yours. I want absolute information consent here.

[Whatever Liquid might have been expecting... well, it wasn't that. But he wouldn't put it past them, either. He grits his teeth for a moment, but he's seemingly taking it well.]

Hmph. Wanted to get rid of me once I'd outlived my use, hm? I'd... considered something of the sort, but I didn't think it'd actually be true. You can fix it?

[Probably why he's taking it well.]

[Doc Yewll is used to liars and spies. She was in a war. She's an Indogene. She has skills that can be used to that end very well.]

[So she doesn't have the right to say anything to that end. But knowing this self-righteous piece of shit had been sneering down on her while being idolized by someone kind-hearted, depended on for friendship, because of the deeds of someone else.]

[It says a lot for Doc Yewll's character that she is handling it as well as she is. And more than that, she doesn't want to see her suffer. She's saved people that have been bigger pricks to her. Why not this red-head.]

Lets put it this way. You're a clone. You're a copy. A reprint of someone else's genes. Someone who's here now.

[She thins her dark lips.]

I'm not going to tell anyone. But I am going to tell you that you're undergoing rapid aging. That was the damage I saw before. But also the damage I've seen in other clones on the ship.

I can fix that.

Great. I'll pick up anything vaguely helpful looking. Just don't make fun of me later if whatever it is turns out to be a space-age toaster or something.

I'm trying to behave myself and not just run around ripping out a hunk of people's hair, even if it would save a life. I'd need it willingly.

From what I know, he's not a big fan of my existence. And we don't exactly get along. [Although technically more of the animosity is on Liquid's part, but still.] It's possible he might just care so little he'll allow it, but I'm not so optimistic.

[And with that, this day more firmly secures its place as the second worst of her short life. She's ready to protest ("no, I had to be brought back to life!"), however futile it is when she knows Yewll is good at what she does, but then the doctor says she's not going to tell anyone - and she can fix what would more readily reveal her.

[She doesn't know why. But she'll take it.

[That's all she knows how to do.

[She takes a deep breath, and nods.] Okay. Okay. [That second one's for herself.] What do you need to do?

Something like it, yeah.

[In theory, anyway. Indogene cloning was the way they perpetuated their race, though theirs were often still individual. Sometimes, though, they could churn one out after another if they knew one was going to die.]

[One after another after another.]

Well, that's an optimistic view right there. [Her tone indicated, however, she wasn't going to encourage him to be gung ho about it. More like she was disappointed that it might be some sort of trial.] Tell me if you can get through to him, and if you can't I'll give it a shot.

Um. Do we... have to?

[She's glad she didn't argue. She saw the flicker, the moment she might have to. And honestly, Doc Yewll wasn't ready to deal with it. She knows she's taking it personally. As an artificial person, a construct herself. she's had to justify her own existence to herself time and time again.]

[Somehow the clone's denials now felt as though they were backhanding her.]

You'll have to ask the person with the original DNA to bring me a sample. She'll have to do it willingly. I'm not going to lose every chance I've gotten here holding people down and scraping cells.

Because the creepy horrible prison station seems to be able to scan us and glean our life histories, I suspect during our mandatory decontamination procedure or something.

[She rubs just below her amp, a ruse turned occasional nervous habit, contemplating the partial truth of "hey, Shepard, I was attacked by a monster while onboard here" when something occurs to her and she looks back at Yewll.]

How fast is this going to happen? Because it's been a year, and as far as I could tell, everything apart from that monster was normal.

Maybe. Hopefully not everyone can access just anybody's files.

But if you've already been there once it might be worth it to go again. [She's being surprisingly gentle, considering her usual brashness. Truth is, she can't blame people for not going. She's not comfortable going through there.]

Just think about it.

Any longer than six to eight months and the symptoms will be harder to stall. And the earlier you get it to me, the longer I have to find the most effective treatment.

[She's still blunt, not padding what she says with any platitudes or apologies. Fact is fact, and she suspects this woman has known her time has been finite and let her research herself in a circle trying to figure out why her cells were falling apart.]

You're lucky that monster had me take a second look. Otherwise you would have been left to fall apart all on your own.

Well, I suppose it's at least reassuring to know it's [Ha. Reassuring.]

Optimism doesn't always work, I'm afraid. I'll see what I can do.

Hell, maybe I've got it all wrong and I'll end up being fine. [He's not going to hold his breath on that one.] How long do I have? Can you tell?

[J keeps coming back to this and each time she hesitates before replying. She can see the her point here and how it would help in the future if.. something happens. But there's still something about sharing about all of this stuff with others.]

What kind of stuff would be helpful to know? Like.. it probably doesn't make big difference if you know about every scratch and bruise that's happened, right?

Hey Doc; I'm Zatanna. I'm assigned to work in medbay too, even though I don't really know what I'm doing there.

[What? She is not a trained medic, okay. And she's a young enough and sassy enough teenager to admit it.]

I can totally help get supplies though. What should I be looking for?

Uh, not really, but I've made repairs on droids before. It can't be that different, can it?

[That's certainly one way to earn a bit of Robin's trust and respect. ]

Thanks for stressing consent. Can I ask -- is that the standing ship's policy or your own?

If it's bruises and scratches, no. A history of high blood pressure, low sugar, frequency of receiving minor injuries. That sort of thing is helpful. It could point to problems the patient doesn't know about.
