[When the feed starts, Elizabeth is right in the center of the frame, dressed in her uniform, giving off a very formal but pleasant attitude. She practiced this. Several times.]

Good morning, everyone. For those of you who I haven't met yet, my name is Elizabeth DeWitt, head librarian. Recently, I was promoted by our captains to the position of First Mate, meaning I have taken on additional responsibilities to the crew aside from encouraging everyone to visit the library and make use of the collection. [Little plug there, forgive her.]

As First Mate, I'll be acting as a liaison between the crew and the captains, should anyone have an issue they would feel more comfortable speaking to me about, or if the captains are off ship. Once I've moved in, my quarters will be located in Section M and I encourage anyone to find me there or at the library if you need me.

...I realize not all of us are happy to find ourselves here, however I am one of the potentially few who very easily call this ship my home. Whatever can be done to make things more efficient, safe, or comfortable, I want to discuss it. But, at the same time, if you just want a reading recommendation and some hot chocolate, I can provide that as well.

[She nods, clearly satisfied with the message and smiles, looking a little relieved that she got through the spiel without embarrassing herself.] I think that about wraps it up, but if there's anything else please feel free to message me. Thank you!

[Join the club, Venom, Elizabeth was taken from an underwater city that very few people knew about. The Ingress works in mysterious ways...]

Ah, few years ahead of me though, but far behind everyone else who seems to hail from the 31st century and beyond. [She chuckles and goes to the electric kettle when she hears is shut off.]

No, not at all. [She thought that maybe the Ingress was helping her avoid the inevitable outcome of the situation she'd been facing, but then not everyone had been in the same position when they were taken.] At first I thought the captains had known I loved books, and needed a librarian. But then Captain Thán told me he had no idea where I'd come from or what I was adept at, they'd just filled the position. [She sets out two cups and shakes her head.] I don't exactly believe in fate, but it's a very particular set of coincidences in my case.

[Venom listened and realised that this girl hadn't know much about her life. This was something very familiar to Snake.]

Before being brought here I was in a nine year coma. I had no idea who I was when I woke up apart from being called Ahab. This guy wearing a bandage over his head known as Ishmael rescued me from the hospital I was in. It was all pretty surreal.

[Snake still had dreams about it all.]

Ahab and Ishmael, that's... [Bizarre, to be quite honest. It would be one thing if they were related, but having some "guy" rescue you from a hospital and have a name that paired up with your own?]

[Hm.]

...quite the coincidence as well! I can see how that would feel surreal, especially if you were missing nine years of history.

Yeah. It was tough waking up not knowing who or what was going on. All I knew was that I had to escape the hospital with my life. The stranger Ishmael helped me with this.

[If it weren't for him and Ocelot he'd probably would have ended up barbequed by the burning man.]

Huh... well! I can say that if our luck holds, you won't be escaping any hospitals while crewing on the Moira. At least, we haven't had to do that yet.

So, probably something not from the 1980s, involving hospitals, or Moby Dick, I'm guessing? [She shakes the instant packets into the cups and pours hot water over them. Spoons, where did she put the spoons...]

Yeah, I'd rather not go through all of that again. [The hospital was pretty traumatic for him. Seeing that burning man and the kid with the gas mask. It was all bad memories for him.]

Moby Dick? Have you read that one here?

We have it here, but I read it a while ago-- out of my personal library from back home. Though someone might have checked it out given all of the whale activity as of late...

[She frowns and looks at her MID, tapping at it, searching for the record.]

I bet they all flew off the shelves once people saw the whales. [Venom smiled at that. Seems the whales were causing fascination among the crew.]

Do you spend most of your time here? [Because Snake got that impressing of her just looking after books and making sure everything was in order.]
