Humans left earth to branch out, and got into it with an alien race that's been doing this way longer than they have. Destruction's about as proportionate as you might expect.

We haven't discovered any aliens yet. We had a base on the moon, but it was overrun by gorilla test subjects.

[ You know, normal stuff. ]

We haven't quite hit Planet of the Apes: Lunar Edition yet. But the aliens are pretty smart, and pretty powerful. Their science trumps ours, for sure, inventions too. Plasma's some stuff we haven't worked out yet.

Do you mean medical plasma, or something else?

Matter state plasma. Weaponized energy.

Oh, okay! Sounds dangerous. Is your world in danger of being invaded or anything?

If we lose the war, maybe. But we're doing our best not to.

Wars are terrible. I'm sorry your world is going through that, but unfortunately it's all too common.

Yeah, it is. Sometimes I wonder if it's a human thing, or a sentience in general thing.

I don't know. Even if I use the gorilla example: they were test subjects put through genetic therapy and trained by humans, so the fact they lashed out against the scientists could be because that's what they learned from humans. Hard to say, really.

And sad. We're talking about such sad stuff.

You know, you're right. Why don't you tell me your favorite thing about your world?

I don't think I can pick just one thing! I love home (that's China), and good food, friends, fluffy little animals, but big gentle animals too! I enjoy my work as a climatologist, and I love movies! What about you?

My friends and family. Hands down. Gotta have something worth fighting for.

Exactly! To me, the world's worth fighting for! ^-^

Though I'm fighting against climate change, not enemies. Not an easy thing when I'm still looking for the source of the climate shift, but it's worth researching so people in the future can enjoy the earth too!

I think the work you're doing is some of the most important work a person could do.

Aww, thank you! The people here have been really nice about my job, like with asking questions or recognizing it's important! Back home, I worry I'm boring people and do my best to make it not sound that way.

Accessibility is important, for sure. You can't ultimately succeed in your field without a lot of cooperation, can you? It takes a lot of people to save a planet,
even if it only takes one passionate scientist to inspire them.

I kept a blog to let people know about my journeys to the mountains, but I hadn't made many entries before I ended up here. I was hoping that would help get the word out about how important the world's climate is, as is knowing where it's going.

Military. Space marine, to be exact.

I used to work for a peacekeeping organization, but a lot of it was made up of soldiers. It was pretty amazing what they could do, and how they had all these unique talents they could use to keep people safe.

That sounds exactly like what my team was like, too. Unique, talented in different ways, and determined to do the right thing.

It's nice to see those similarities between worlds, isn't it? I think people all over are more alike than they are different.
You just have to talk to them and see.

My thoughts exactly. People just need a chance to show you who they really are. You can find something in common with anybody.
