He is a trained assassin. It is simply plausible, albeit highly unlikely
Especially if I were to look for him

No way to know for certain, though I would think if he left the ship willingly he might have had the captains remove his MID. So that it wouldn't be tracking him and he wouldn't be registered to crew anymore.

So if they don't have record of him going, it was probably him disappearing.
