Anyway, I'm Hawke and I have an incredibly important question for the people on this ship to satisfy my own curiosity. Or I suppose some of the people on this ship. ...Probably.

In the past few days I've gotten such shock and awe [The phrase shock and awe is said in an appropriately dramatic tone!] over the very concept of magic, elves, dwarves, and demons. All of those things I see when I pop my head out my bedroom window back home. Well not demons. Or not usually demons but it did happen once or twice... [Her home is basically the garbage dump of the world, everyone.

ANYWAY. She shakes her head and waves a hand to move the conversation along.]

Fascinating but pointless side information. Magic is the sticking point. And the reason I am making this very important message where my face shows up on the little arm thing. Does anyone else do magic? Blood magic? Elemental magic? Necroph- No, it's Necromancer. Anything at all really? I figure there aren't any templars out to kill mages on this ship so we're at least safe to talk about it for now. That would be doubling down on bad luck.

And on top of that. [She makes a small ball of light appear in her hands and rolls it idly between her fingers.] anyone find that doing magic is suddenly a lot harder than it was back home? On the level of "after casting a few spells, I feel like I'm about to pass out and or vomit"? Sort of thing? Haven't exactly figured how they've done it but they've done it. It's a bit impressive, if not very annoying.

Anyway, magic users, questions, hopefully answers! Maybe we could even start a little club where we drink tea and chat up spells. That sounds delightful.

Oh and I suppose if anyone who's in "shock and awe" about magic, this is the perfect time to get all of your questions out. I really opened up the floodgates.

I know what you mean. Nobody I've met has even heard of Devil Fruits.

[They aren't exactly common where she's from, but at the very least people generally know what they are from legends and the like. Not so much on the Moira, though.]

I can't do magic, but the things I can do aren't any harder here than they were at home. How do your powers usually work?

It's about how we interact with the Fade. Which is... a magical green scary place that you go when you dream or die and where magic comes from. It's complicated. And we're quite far from it.

What's 'blood magic'?

[The "shock and awe" part of magic had mostly worn off for Ratchet (even if there was still a small part of him that adamantly wanted to say it was all bullshit) but there always seemed to be more he didn't know.]

Using your own blood as fuel for magic instead of touching the Fade. Also the ability to twist and corrupt blood and others. So of course demons love it.

So basically, blood magic is "no, don't do it, please for the love of the Maker, stop doing blood magic, oh you're possessed by a demon now. Of course."

Shock and awe? I watched an kid produce multiple elements, and fly by tapping a pile of cards. I'm over it.

But seriously, all advanced technology and misunderstood biology tends to look like magic until it's been rationalized and explained. Since we're all from different universes entirely? Might take some time.

We've pretty much come to the conclusion that it's "magic". Coming from a magical metaphysical realm sort of thing. We're quite committed to the idea in Thedas.

Even a mage can appreciate a good card trick. It takes such a sleight of hand! I've yet to master it myself despite great instruction from a friend.

Sadly there's no magic back home at all. [Hello, Hawke- you have one not!Orlesian answering you, just as you answered him before.] My world has no connection to anything similar to spells or wards. It just doesn't exist.

Hard to believe. How do you heal anyone? Or stop any of your foes? Or have someone to judge and cast out of society? It's truly rattling about in my brain!

I suppose my case may fit under "elemental magic"... I have ice magic. --Well, ice and snow... Although not only is it uncommon on the ship, but even where I'm from, so I understand the shock and awe you've been receiving.

[ Discussing her powers is still something that Elsa is hesitant about doing, particularly over the network, although she's slightly less apprehensive when talking with other magic users. One plus side to being trapped on this ship is the number of other people capable of similar things as she is. ]

However, I can't say I've found using my magic more taxing here. I haven't experienced any problems like that and... this is actually the first I've heard of such a thing. That's odd, if it's happening to you.

Ice is classic. Love a good ice spell. Especially convenient on hot summer days. But everyone here seems to think it's quite surprising. Mages aren't exactly beloved back home but we're not surprising.

[Hawke is also not quite used to openly discussing magic but hey. If there are templars here, best to get that figured out before they sneak up on her right?]

Well, that's no good. Usually it's fun to be unique and special but this is really not the way I'd want to go about it.

He's already had to explain that he isn't going to bust out in demons and hurt people. Apparently there is some fear of that sort of thing here.]

I don't feel like I am about to vomit, fortunately...but I've spent years building up a resistance to vomiting. I do feel like I am being taxed when performing major spells, however, like I have to pull a little harder and I'm unable to multitask like before. One spell at a time, the cool down is longer. [Which is a right pain in the ass.] I suppose I should cave in and learn physical self-defense, but I intend to craft some potions as well. The only thing I can think of is that...our magic is connected to the Fade and we are a great distance from our world.

If you don't vomit how do you know that you've had an excellent night at the bar? What's the point of measurement? [So basically Hawke is someone who just pushes herself all the time and that's probably where the vomiting problem comes from. She's only the prettiest Hawke daughter not the smartest!!!!] And yes those as problems as well.

I could teach you physical self defense to an extent but let's be honest. Nothing's better than magic so we're going to have to figure out this whole "Fade Issue" or else our kidnapping shall be even more unpleasant than a normal kidnapping.

Personally, I've never seen magic performed - if you don't count things like street magicians and stuff like that.

But the dead have been known to come back before. A shame Nightbeat isn't here to share the experience.
