They're definitely models! Some of them just don't look like ships.

That's a relief.

[He doesn't know what it says about what his life has become that he can't completely rule out the idea that someone might have found a way to shrink down a full-sized ship. It's an absurd idea, but he still has to be open to the possibility. Even so, the one he received seems to be inert, so if the improbable had turned out to be the case, at least there would have been no concern that the crew had also been shrunken down to match.]

What do the others look like?

Most of them are just models of existing fighters and spacecrafts. But one looks like a kind of torpedo shape that opens up like a flower, and another looks like a bug.

One kind of looks like a big round ball.

Yes! That's the Citadel fleet flagship, the Destiny Ascension.

[She can't contain herself from adding:] Nice, right?

I got something strange like that in the mail. Is this one of your models?

[The camera pans over to a little model of a Geth ship.]

It'd have to be a flagship, how would it ever fly in atmosphere... [He looks over it, momentarily distracted by the logistics of such a thing.] It's very nice, though. A collector's item...?

That's one! It's a little unusual. Doesn't really look like a space ship, right?

[squadgoals]

No — well. [She shrugs, half-smiling] I guess it is, here. They actually used to sell this model at the Citadel souvenir gift shops. It's probably the most prolific model out there.

Still, they didn't skimp on the quality, it's well-made, and well-balanced. The running lights even illuminate if you hit the button on the bottom.

Oh- really? [He hits the button, and lo, it does indeed light up.] I used to have something like this when I was a kid. Not for flagships, though. I don't think they made miniatures of those. [He frowns a moment, idly wondering.]

[...Well, anyway.] Do you want it back? I'm guessing it's really yours.

I guess not. Where I come from, ships have oars or sails, so I don't really think any of these things look like ships...

[Not that she doesn't understand why spaceships don't have those things, but it still feels strange to call them ships.]

Was coming on board the Moira the first time you saw a... ship without oars, or sails?

[A smile quirks on her lips when he mentions having had something similar. A fellow fan, huh?]

[Luke smiles.] I appreciate the offer, but I think you'll appreciate this more than I could. I've never seen any design like this before.

I, on the other hand, have seen more of the full-scale Destiny Ascension than I ever expected to in several lifetimes. All yours.

If you're curious about the details, though, I could probably give you a mini-rundown of it.

[Luke laughs.] It is a kind of Star Destroyer, then?

Star destroyer? [Well I mean, not what it's made for but] That's not its primary function, but I guess it could take one out.

Not a great idea, but yeah. Probably doable.

[Luke cringes.] No, no, it's a class of ship. I don't think they could actually destroy stars...

Star Destroyers are Imperial freighters. Mobile space stations for combat missions, they're about as big as the Moira. All military, though.

Well I didn't show up on the Moira, and the planet I arrived on had some smaller ships flying around.

But I never saw anything like that before I was brought here, no.

That's the Quarian ship! It's a little unusual, but not as weird as they can be.

From a kit, but yeah, I assembled it. Wrote my name on it because I didn't want to lose them twice. Glad I did.

You can certainly have it back if you want it, but I have to admit that I'm interested in its origins. "Quarian ship" doesn't mean anything to me.
