The environment on the ship has been extremely hostile, more than what's typical for us, and that has to stop. The punishment system was put into play to discourage these kinds of actions, but there have been more after its installation.

This means that things are going to change, beginning with the treatment of other crew members.

As your captains, we don't wish to force anyone to do anything, and we'd prefer that everyone learn to live and work together to achieve our common goal, but that idle behavior we've adopted is now over. All of us are extremely displeased.

We're going to start with reworking the punishment system. This will mean the creation of new positions (arresting officers, mediation officers, etc.), and the implementation of new rules.

Please state your suggestions, thoughts, and offer yourself as candidates for the new roles.

That's something that we'll consider. Most of the crew have responded that they won't trust anyone that is given authority, which is a problem, but we have to have crew responsible for making sure the rules are followed.

It is, but under these circumstances, it is reasonable to expect suspicion. Most of the crew are still strangers to each other - and to you.

The only way to get around that is to earn their trust. It will take time. It probably won't leave many people happy in the beginning, as you've seen, but that just comes with being active in your leadership.

I do think having checks on those you ultimately assign will be necessary. It may convince a few that you care about making it work.

[Thán completely agreed with that. The captains didn't think any solution would appease everyone, but they were seeking something for the majority, at least.]

Having check-ins is a good idea. It allows crew to see that we didn't hand over roles of responsibility to those that will be above the rules that the rest will have.
