The environment on the ship has been extremely hostile, more than what's typical for us, and that has to stop. The punishment system was put into play to discourage these kinds of actions, but there have been more after its installation.

This means that things are going to change, beginning with the treatment of other crew members.

As your captains, we don't wish to force anyone to do anything, and we'd prefer that everyone learn to live and work together to achieve our common goal, but that idle behavior we've adopted is now over. All of us are extremely displeased.

We're going to start with reworking the punishment system. This will mean the creation of new positions (arresting officers, mediation officers, etc.), and the implementation of new rules.

Please state your suggestions, thoughts, and offer yourself as candidates for the new roles.

What makes you think that it's not a democracy? There is very little, in the grander scheme of things, that we ask of the crew.

Don't kill each other. Do your share. We don't want to have to lay out specific rules, but the crew is doing very little to behave without them.

We're starting with this. An open forum if you will. We want to hear what everyone has to say and then we'll propose a new system.

It's going to be extremely difficult to propose enforcers of any kind other than yourselves who will be both accepted by everyone else and capable of doing the work.

It's also possible that you'll need to be much more explicit and detailed about your terms. They're simple to me and to you, but clearly not to everyone.

The slippery slope is the one related to harsher sentencing. At the far end, there are various kinds of execution, or less seriously, abandonment at a planetary stop. Instituting either or both will prompt more of this kind of outcry.

I agree. We are considering opening positions to the crew, and while there are those we believe a majority will trust, it won't be everyone that feels that way about anyone.

We won't be doing either of those. If we leave crew, others might leave as well. Execution results in the same. The rules need to be reworked. New guidelines. New consequences. An overall better system. We're just getting a feel for what crew will respond to best.
