The environment on the ship has been extremely hostile, more than what's typical for us, and that has to stop. The punishment system was put into play to discourage these kinds of actions, but there have been more after its installation.

This means that things are going to change, beginning with the treatment of other crew members.

As your captains, we don't wish to force anyone to do anything, and we'd prefer that everyone learn to live and work together to achieve our common goal, but that idle behavior we've adopted is now over. All of us are extremely displeased.

We're going to start with reworking the punishment system. This will mean the creation of new positions (arresting officers, mediation officers, etc.), and the implementation of new rules.

Please state your suggestions, thoughts, and offer yourself as candidates for the new roles.

We will make a decision, quite soon actually. We thought it best to extend the question, listen to suggestions, and then make the most informed choice that we can.

The punishment system was a way for us to show the crew that we aren't trying to force anyone to do anything. That the consequences for their actions are decided by everyone, not just one or two people above everyone. A democracy, if you will. It wasn't laid out as detailed as it probably should have been, and that's because we put too much weight on the crew to be able to behave.

The new system will have to be better if this ship is going to reach its destination.

A democracy can be soft, or too hard, depending on who's behind it. You're still giving power to partial parties, regardless of whoever else is involved, it's inherently skewed. Unclear lines are as good as having none. You don't just need a new system. You need one to start with.

Yes, of course. That is part of the reason that we need to have a better system on the ship. Everything that the crew do to each other, and when we stop, influences how long this trip will take.

Some of us still operate under various mandates from back home. A better start than mob judgment. Make use of your politicians and peacekeepers, we have these mandates for a reason.

Agreed. We're allowing crew to state their opinions, and will be making the decision shortly. We plan to utilize the crew that have backgrounds in this, and have been offered help already.
