[Billy brings up his other hand to idly scratch at his cheek. To be honest, hanging out in a group isn't something he's done in a while... certainly not back where he came from, but. Getting to know your shipmates a little more can't be bad, right? They all have to work together.]

Since I have some DVDs and a portable player, I thought it might be fun to set up some sort of movie night soon? Just for something fun and stupid. Maybe we can get some snacks, some drinks... Make an actual night of it.

If anyone's interested, let me know here, and when you're available so we can try to set up a time that's convenient for everyone.

[Well, that's a little difficult to just explain away, isn't it? He'll give it a shot anyway.]

It's like a story, just with moving pictures. They're a lot of fun if you want to just relax a little.

[ There's a really long pause in the audio from her end. The concept of storytelling in a purely pleasurable context is pretty foreign to her. ]

So... it's like a mission report, or a historical account, but with motion graphics illustrating the whole thing?

Some are historic, yeah.

[He gives a thoughtful hum.]

Wherever you're from... they don't just tell stories for the fun of it though? Fiction?

...I just read reports and research notes for my job. [ She sounds almost put out about this, disconcerted and a little bit touchy at this evidence that aliens might have gems beat at something. ]

Oh-- what sort of job did you have?

[He can tell she sounds a little-- irritated? by the idea of fiction. Or at least how he's describing it.]

I'm an engineer and certified kindergartener. [ She says this with such a great swell of pride in her voice, it's pretty obvious that she's 100% confident that Billy must know exactly what all of that means, and that she's expecting him to be impressed.

Yes. Yes she'll wait in silence for this human's awed response. ]

[Well, there was silence. An engineer is impressive! Even if he doesn't know exactly what the rest means to her.

...It means I'm trained to operate and maintenance any and all kindergarten equipment. It's very important.

But enough about that. You've piqued my interest in this "movie night" that you mentioned. When will it occur?

That sounds like it would be fun. [She's certainly excited to see films, even if she has no idea what a 'DVD' is.] Do you have 'The Revenge of the Jedi'?

Ah, sorry. I'll try to get it if I can sometime. Right now, I have the Sound of Music and Lord of the Rings.

Those sound good too! I haven't seen many films, the one I mentioned before is really the only one I've heard of and not seen.

Oh, yeah? It is a total classic. Now I'm regretting not having them...

What other films do you like?

I saw Metropolis, and The Jazz Singer-- that one was amazing! The Wizard of Oz nearly made me cry, though I couldn't make it through Gone With the Wind. I liked It Happened One Night! The Wolfman was ridiculous, if horror movies haven't changed much I think I'll give that genre a pass.

I always liked going to the movies though. For a while, you're watching someone else's story. Escaping into a different world for a while, where everything turns out alright in the end.

Those are classics, definitely. [He lets out a laugh.] And just between you and me, The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorites too. And... horror movies have changed, sure. They have a lot more gore and a lot more attempts to play up the shock factor. Some are decent? It depends on what you like.

Me too. It's one of the draws, right? And I figure, with as weird as everything is right now... we could all maybe use some time to just kick back and enjoy a story we for sure know is going to end well.

Yeah, I've only been here a short time, and I still think I'd like that. I've heard some people have been here for months, I imagine they desperately could use a night like that.

So which one ends the best out of those two that you have? The Sound of Music or Lord of the Rings?

How are you settling in? I know it's kind of... overwhelming at first.

I think Lord of the Rings might be the way to go? It has a little bit of everything.
