We do, but what we intend to do and the outcome isn't always the same, of course. Sometimes people get hurt or we make things worse, even if it isn't on purpose, and I can understand why some crewmembers would just not want us to get involved at all, even if I don't agree with them.

I think that people should be able to decide from themselves, for each situation, even if it might be dangerous--particularly since we seem to have been able to avoid tracking that danger back to the ship, for the most part. Few things that have happened here have been a direct result of our deliberate involvement on planets we've visited.
