Maybe it's that I'm a perfectionist, but I don't like us handing this job with the hunters off to someone else. I don't know whether it's a matter of diplomatic neutrality or what, which is what I suspect. It just... My men are trained in non-lethal take-downs. With the skill sets available on board, the numbers, I think it would be relatively simple to render the entire stock of hunters unconscious and have them transported off the planet.

No casualties. Quick. Clean. I've seen other people on board in action, ones I didn't train, both in the simulation room and out in the wild. They're good. The mercenaries could take up protection work after the fact. But honestly, lowest damage possible scenario, I would trust to us.

Yeah. Doesn't sit right. [Not the mission itself. Having the hunters driven out? Fine. Giving up ship expenses and valuables to pay for what they could very easily do themselves? That gives him a lot of pause.]

I've worked with plenty. I help maintain a PF and we're extremely successful. [Or he did. He's pretty sure he just quit.] Regular payments for border maintenance and training were a lot more reliable than one off jobs. Plus maintaining a border leads to the chances to absorb supplies from enemy forces for use and resale. It wouldn't just be us paying them, but by invading their space, if they were good enough, the would have a steady supply of product.

That said Banner is working on a way to shield the planet for entrance. All the hunters would be able to offer is speculative payment at best, with no solid way to re-enter the atmosphere themselves. And even then, a good shield? Mercs might not even be necessary. Then it would just be us.

And I'm hating watching people stagnate.

That's depending on a lot of variables, the main being they don't just get bored and go home.

Perhaps they'll take a liking to the shield technology. I'm just saying, killing everyone has always been a viable option.

Forgive me for being hesitant to put any stock whatsoever into anything the captains do. They're only dropping into the negatives as they pull ridiculous stunts like this.
