So, here's the thing. I get that most of us don't want to be here.

[let's start by acknowledging that, alright? Emma doesn't want this. she's new, she's pissed, and all she wants is to get back home to her son. there's a role she's being forced into here that she'd like to totally ignore, but that's only going to make her life harder in the long run.

It's apparently enough of an issue that I've been enlisted as a personnel retrieval officer. What that means for you is that if you're not where you need to be, I'll have to find you, and then I'll have to escort you to the right place. you can try getting out of it but I have almost too much experience in this sort of thing, and I always get my guy.

[it's being a bailbondsperson all over again. she may not want to do this, but she's perfectly capable of it.]

So show up for work, alright? This sucks enough on it's own without any of us making it worse.

Why is everyone asking that?

[ Look, it's not a job she wants to do. Normally she'd be all about rising up and doing what they want - but until they've tried everything to get back home, they have to give this whole community of helpers crap a chance. Who knows, it might even work.]

because an endless escher chain of chore-related bounty hunters having to go after each other in turn would make for a good — if kind of surreal — cop movie

but seriously. do you think they have a plan on that? like if they picked you, i assume they think you'll do the job. but that's up to you, not them

As long as doing my job helps all of us get home, I'm going to do it. I don't know what their plan is, but if they don't have one, that's on them.

[Because if there's no follow through on trying to get back to Storybrooke, she'll start asking those questions too.]

sure. but if they don't, then you've spent how long following, and for what?

inaction is on us. blind action is on us. it's important for us to all pitch in here, it keeps the ship flying. but that can't be our sole goal.

making sure that people go to work isn't going to make or break anything. but if i was you, i'd ask myself why a job that's a threat is necessary in this situation, and what kind of message it sends about the future of this boat.

I think the ship has more problems than people skipping work, but that doesn't help, either.

i'm not saying don't do your job

i'm just saying it's worth thinking about how you do it. not many people here picked a profession.

You think the babysitting gig is what I'd pick?

i think it beats scrubbing toilets, or some of the other things on board
