sooo what kind of powers do you guys have? were you born with them or get them in some freak incident or what?

[He pauses as he types out the text, considering if he should be honest about his intentions or not. It's not like he had any sinister plans or anything. It's just a matter of being private. But he doesn't want to sound too weird or shady. This sounds shady doesn't it??

He types and deletes a bunch of times, unhappy with most of the reasons he tries to give for asking the question. This one makes him sound too weak, this one makes him sound too ignorant, this one just makes him sound stupid. Eventually he settles for...well, nothing. He just gives up and hits send.]

[Peter actually gives a little wave when Andrew switches.]

Sure. [He's pretty sure no one will get offended over it, it's not like the guy called the people freaks. But Peter likes teasing.]

Sure am. Silver hair right out of the womb, powers years after. Abilities are coded into the DNA back home.

[A...wkward...wave in return.]

Uh, is the silver hair is part of it?

[Sorry but he has to get that out of the way before they discuss this further.]

Well, I've never heard of a toddler going gray before. Besides it's kind of all over, if you catch my drift. That's not supposed to happen to anyone under, like, 50. Has to be part of the mutation.

[Oh my god, Peter TMI just excuse his obvious searching for words to quickly move on so he can forget that was even a thing that was said.]

Anyway, yeah, okay. So, uh...mutation you said. Is that common where you're from then?

[Ignore the fact Peter brought it up in the first place.]

Sort of. I've met a few, heard about more. It's still a rare thing, you know? Just a few here and there.

[Well now he's just flustered but he's going to just, drop it. Yes. HE'S DROPPING IT. It takes him a second to regain his composure.]

Anyway, right...it's not so rare that it's totally unheard of though, right? Like, if someone saw you use your powers back home they wouldn't freak out or anything, would they?

[Rookie mistake Andrew. The video is on, Peter can see you getting flustered. He's just going to grin wider and keep talking.]

Dude, chill. Not like I offered to show you.

[And then they had to drift right back into a more sobering conversation.]

Yes. They would completely freak out. Possibly call the police, or gather some pitchforks and start a mob. We might be heard of, but that doesn't mean people want us around.

[The force he is using to to try and maintain a non flustered face is stronger than his telekinesis tbh.

Moving on then. He looks off to the side and clears his throat a little.]

So it's some...anti-powers thing? That sucks. I mean, I know like two other people like me back home and we didn't tell anyone. [Thinking back on it, if they wouldn't gather the pitchforks before they certainly would after that whole thing in the city with him and Matt.] So we didn't really deal that.

More like anti-mutant thing. Some people just hate how we were born. I don't think it would matter much what the power was. [He rubs at his face, sighing.] People just like having something to hate, I guess.

When you say like you, do you mean same powers? Or just that they had powers?

Yeah...they do.

[And that he knows from experience, and it had nothing to do with his powers.]

Same powers. We um, we were all together when it happened. When we got them, I mean.

[Another sigh.] You know it too, huh?

Hm. Since I told you about mine, how about you tell me that story? How'd it happen?

[Andrew just nods in reply, not really wanting to say more on that.]

There...was this hole in the woods. My stupid cousin and my friend - I didn't really know him at the time though - anyway they wanted to check it out. There was this big...glowing crystal thing. And it - it was making this weird noise, right? Like a hum. Anyway, it's kind of fuzzy but I just remember my friend's noise bleeding and my cousin being knocked back by something. And I don't know, I think I did too? I just remember blacking out.

A few days later we realized we could just...move things with our minds. Annnd the rest is history, I guess.

Telekinesis? Nice.

It all sounds like some comic book origin story, to be honest. Didn't you ever go back to investigate the crystal more? I don't know, run some tests or touch it or anything?

[Andrew actually manages a tiny chuckle at the comparison.] Yeah, not as glamorous or anything though. We didn't go off and become super heroes.

I mean we did go back but the hole caved in. We were told we had to leave because the ground was unstable or something. So...that kind of ended that.

You didn't hear it from me, but the superhero thing sounds a little overrated anyway.

[He's maybe projecting a little here because he knows two versions of himself are all about saving the world.]

Who told you to leave? Cops? You don't actually have to listen to cops.

[He did go off and become a bit of a villain though. But that...was not intentional at all okay.

Andrew looks confused for a moment because uhh yes you do? Okay, he didn't listen to them when they were trying to stop him from killing everyone but those were special circumstances or something.]

What else could we have done? Besides, I mean I don't know about them but I didn't want any trouble.

[Oh Andrew. You sweet law abiding citizen. Peter has so much to teach you.]

Uh, a lot of things? Come back when they were gone? Put those powers to use getting around them? You don't get into trouble if you never get caught.

Look, I just - I didn't want to start something, okay?

[And if anyone knew about what happened with Andrew that would be really ironic. But right now he just sounds like a teen wanting to keep his head down.]

They had the place surrounded and we weren't strong enough to do anything at the time anyway.

Yeah, yeah. Just saying. There's ways around the law.

But why not after you got stronger. Genuine curiosity, not lecturing here.

By the time I was stronger I just - I had a lot going on. My mind was occupied with other things.

Well, there's a mission for you when you go back. Maybe touching the thing again will give you more powers. Like heat vision or something.

[Andrew doesn't say anything right away at the mention of going back. But after a moment he shrugs.]

Maybe. I don't really want to go back anyway.

Yeah? [Peter doesn't sound that surprised. The longer he spends here the more reasons he finds to like about this life. He can't fault anyone else for preferring it.] Well, just a thought.

Yeah. Traveling through space is pretty awesome.

[A little chuckle, because he realizes how he sounded just then. Not that traveling through space isn't cool but that's not really the reason he wants to stay.]

[Peter's still waiting for the novelty to wear off, the downside to being a speedster is that everything is quick to get old. But he can't fault anyone else for getting excited by all this. He'd been ecstatic those first two weeks.]

No problem. If we're all going to live together we might as well try to make nice, you know? So don't mention it.
