[Niko has had a little bit of a confusing week. He didn't expect to be asked along on a diplomatic mission; usually not anything he's good at (in his mind). But he came along, figuring he was there as bodyguard more than anything else.]

Hey, ah.... So I just got back. I had to go with Thán for a mission and now he has a new boyfriend for peace purposes I guess. I am not really sure what happened there. Sort of like an arranged marriage? [He's actually kind of suspicious of this whole-matchmaking thing now. He's always disliked match-making on some level, but there is something deeply unsettling about it here. Just how mandatory and committing it seems.]

[He doesn't hate the match he was given, not at all. But he knows there might be people they're even better suited to.]

Look, I am a little nervous about this big business here. Capitalism is shit, government is shit, and is bad enough when taking advantage of lonely people. But I think we are going to have to be sure to be good to the new guy because we saw what happened the last time we fucked up diplomacy.

It's just strange, isn't it? That they would make them mandatory when they've always promoted the idea that you can come willingly and find a match.

Even a dating service should give you variety. There are thousands of people that must be in range of interest, and you should be okay for choosing who to look at.

In my world, giving too much information is a risk. [Some of the info on his own dating profile there had been very, very false.] It makes you easier to find, easier to take advantage of. Your information can be sold unless there is special clause saying that it cannot be.

For this to be mandatory even? It is very wrong.

I agree, Niko. It is very wrong.

More than that, I find it odd that some of the matches were so very compatible considering that most were probably not honest. After speaking with Benjamin, I've discovered we have a lot in common.

How could they know any of that from a survey?

To be honest, I do not think they are right.

These people are alike because they are in similar circumstances. There are many in this crew that, without our history, I would be better suited to than Tali. It is our history that makes us special. Not genes.

I think it is the expectation of companionship that makes any pair. Not some fucking genetic test. Not some brain scan. Not some poorly chosen answers on a survey.

To think otherwise is a great discredit to any person that has suffered to fall in love, and lost those that they connected with by chance. It is a discredit to those that must lose the ones they love because they change too much, or their love dies. What, someone you build life with is dead now? Gone forever? Here! Fill out a fucking form. We get you a new one!

I'm glad you have Tali. That there is history between you that makes you special.

If people come here willingly, and they want this to happen, then I can support that if only because they might find a match that makes them happy. On the other hand, it's hard to support something that only seems to be doing it for profit.

At least some people my find good friends of this, if not companionship. Or a decent one night stand.

I disagreed with him on a ship function and he started putting me down, talking like he knows better than everyone.

Have the two of you parted on amicable terms? There has been a lot of discord amongst crew members.

I told him that I wanted my space and to only contact me if it is important, but not to do so casually. There will always be discord. Sometimes it just so happens two people do not get along very well. It will not interfere if I have to work with him.

[He's worked with plenty of people he didn't particularly get along with, and to be honest Miles hasn't called him a faggot for not getting off on murder or referred to him as a worthless peasant. He's very low tier in that matter.]

I understand, Niko. I wish you hadn't had a disagreement, but you're right. We are all in such close quarters, it is bound to happen that some of us don't get along.

I told his cousin. He started changing accents and everything. He was talking like he wanted to take over the ship himself.

When we meet next, I would like to discuss it with him. I don't know that there is anything I can do other than let him know that it isn't appreciated. Would that be a problem? If I spoke to him about it.

I don't think so. I would not have told you if I did not think he might make some bad choices again. And I do not want him to brag on the pain he goes through making choices that we did not ask him to make.

That makes a lot of sense. I just wanted to be certain of where you stand before I made any decisions.

I am not certain of where I stand. But I do know I don't know shit about how this ship works or where it is going.

[And that means Thán's opinion is more important.]

I respect that you are at least willing to learn. Less assumption and more action.

I am full of plenty of assumptions. It is how I have managed to survive for so long. But action is pretty important to.

So you've been to some of these places before, or know of them before we stop. Are we backtracking to where you started? Or are you sort of just running from something and going paths you know?
