[Wash appears on the screen, grudgingly out of armour, his face drawn and pinched around the mouth. He looks exhausted, eyes sunken and dark with exhaustion. Arriving here is just one more thing that seems specifically designed to fuck up his life.]

My name is Ag- [No, he's not Agent Washington anymore is he? He's not with the UNSC. He's not with project Freelancer. He's not anything.] My name is Washington.

They said that- [He can't believe he's saying this. His life is a fucking joke and his death will probably be the punchline. Until then, he is stuck dealing with this shit. Assuming he hasn't snapped altogether. That's also a possibility.]

They said that I have been sucked in through some kind of bullshit dimension hopping. [Yes, his teeth are gritted as he says it.] I'm looking for anyone who knows what the UNSC is.

[It's not that he wants to find anyone from home. There's no-one he cares for left alive and even then... well, he tries not to think about them too much. But he just needs someone to remind him that that wasn't all fictional.]

A lot. Most recently, somebody hijacked the Ingress to go to a specific world on a revenge mission, and there's talk that's what caused the ... man, I can't even really call it weather. Environmental? bullshit going on back here. They've had to evacuate off more and more of the world and blame us.

Not like anyone asked to be dragged here.

Should I expect trouble?

Nah, not yet anyway. I mean, I'm always on guard, but right now you're just going to get glared at, maybe refused service. Not attacked.

Good thing my paranoia won't be going to waste here.

[Wash chokes on his food and gives York a wide-eyed look of shock. For a moment he looks much more like the person he'd been when York had known him.]

An Escort?!

Oh, not like that. [ There's a sparkle in his eye that suggests he might have phrased it like that on purpose though. ] Literally, escorting Ingress tourists through to other worlds, and protecting them while they're there. The company's called Normandy Securities, you're basically a bodyguard but they pay way better than the Complex does.

[Wash scowls at him for that. But he has to admit, it sounds better than any other prospects that he has right now.]

Right. That sounds like something that I can do.

I'll set you up with Shepard. Try and be friendly, but honestly she'll probably hire you on sight since you have your own armor.

It is weird seeing so many people out of it.

There's the four of us, and everybody from her world. That's all I know of with full body armor.

[He feels naked without the armour by now. Too used to it. Too used to the protection and having his face hidden.]

I think this is the longest I've seen you outside of armour for.

Yeah, I mostly only need it for work, here. It's nice not being weighed down all the time.

[ York's also always been one who liked being able to touch people, to see them, look them in the eye when talking. ]

[Wash glances down at his armour and then back at York.]

I think I'll stick with wearing it.

[He doesn't sound entirely convinced himself but that's what happens when the only contact you get that isn't violent is doctors checking him over, and even that had been... a while back.]
