[Wash appears on the screen, grudgingly out of armour, his face drawn and pinched around the mouth. He looks exhausted, eyes sunken and dark with exhaustion. Arriving here is just one more thing that seems specifically designed to fuck up his life.]

My name is Ag- [No, he's not Agent Washington anymore is he? He's not with the UNSC. He's not with project Freelancer. He's not anything.] My name is Washington.

They said that- [He can't believe he's saying this. His life is a fucking joke and his death will probably be the punchline. Until then, he is stuck dealing with this shit. Assuming he hasn't snapped altogether. That's also a possibility.]

They said that I have been sucked in through some kind of bullshit dimension hopping. [Yes, his teeth are gritted as he says it.] I'm looking for anyone who knows what the UNSC is.

[It's not that he wants to find anyone from home. There's no-one he cares for left alive and even then... well, he tries not to think about them too much. But he just needs someone to remind him that that wasn't all fictional.]

Yeah, I mostly only need it for work, here. It's nice not being weighed down all the time.

[ York's also always been one who liked being able to touch people, to see them, look them in the eye when talking. ]

[Wash glances down at his armour and then back at York.]

I think I'll stick with wearing it.

...then I won't touch you. [ That was easy, wasn't it? York doesn't comment on the fact that it's a new issue. ]

[He doesn't sound entirely convinced himself but that's what happens when the only contact you get that isn't violent is doctors checking him over, and even that had been... a while back.]

I don't trust anyone. [Not even himself a lot of the time.]

Just say you'll work on it? [ They used to be there, York feels like they can be there again. ]

...it's kept me alive.

When you were alone, yeah. You've got us back now, though. Here.

[How is he supposed to trust anyone?]

So give it some time.

[ That's all he's asking. ]

...thank you.

[ He goes back to his dinner, his tone less serious now when he does speak again. ]

Where are you crashing?

Just the place they gave me until I know what I'm doing.

[It isn't ideal, but he doesn't have anywhere else right now.]

You can crash here if you want. They stick you with random roommates in those bunks.

[Wash gives him a look of absolute dismay. Yeah, random roommates is not great for a paranoid soldier with issues a mile wide.]

I don't know if that's a good idea. I don't sleep much, or very well.

All the more reason not to be thrown in with a rando. You won't bother me, and the couch pulls out. And we'll get you set up with Shep soon and then you can rent your own place.

[It's going to be weird sharing space with York again. With anyone really. At least he's relatively certain that York won't stab him while he sleeps.

He not actually sure that he'd care all that much if York did.]
