This is ridiculous. More than ridiculous, it’s… it’s actively idiotic.

If any of your claims about our abductions being “accidental” are true, your primary objective should be to return us to our home-planets as quickly and efficiently as possible. Instead, you want us to stay on this planet for weeks while the natives drone on about meaningless distractions like dating and love. [There’s a brief pause here, and one can easily imagine the speaker shaking her head in disgust.] Even if you did have ulterior motives in taking us, which is more than likely, there is no reason to have us stay on this irrelevant planet other than to waste our time.

I don’t know about my crewmates, but I have already been away for too long. I had -- have an objective back on Pandora and if these pointless diversions end up preventing its completion, I will make you pay for it. [She lets the threat hang there for a moment before speaking again.]

Tell me, did they grab anyone else? Nisha, maybe? Wilhelm? They would probably be most beneficial.

[There’s a long pause, during which Athena stares at the face on her MID for a good several seconds without making a positive ID. When she speaks, her voice is terse and suspicious.] “Who is this?”

It is our primary objective to take everyone home, but this planet isn't irrelevant. There are times when it may take a month or longer to reach another stop, and this requires us to gather as much supplies as possible.

The natives ask that we indulge in their odd notions of matching and we ask that you play nice while we get the things we need.

[Nobody has to leave the ship while it's docked for loading but the captains know, and some of the crew would agree, that it's good to get out here and there.]

If the ship needs supplies, then order the crew to gather them so that we can be on our way. Making everyone take part in these foolish customs only slows us down.

If we must have a partner to leave the ship, I could do this faster. And with less prodding.

Answer my question: who are you? [If she sounds rather aggressive, it's only because the woman's repeated implications that they know each other are putting her on edge. It's not like most people from Athena's past are friends, after all.] Are you from Atlas?

They are. We have assigned new positions to the cargo bay, including those that will be responsible for inventory, ordering, and loading supplies. It might take them some time to adjust, but we're reworking how we do this.

It may seem foolish, but if filling out a survey is all it takes to let us purchase supplies, then it doesn't seem so large a thing.

[Athena shakes her head.] I've never heard of an "Aurelia Hammerlock." And I've never been to Elpis. And even I had, I've spent the last few weeks on this ship.

[she actually sounds somewhat surprised/offended. she debates with herself if she can be bothered trying to solve this.]

I’ve been following the directives given by the captains. Such as they are… [The second half is said with undisguised contempt, and for good reason. Next to Atlas’s omnipresent and rigid authority, the command of the current captains seems laughably weak and confused.]

My official role on the ship is “Public Relations Officer.” [You can practically hear the air quotes in her voice.] In other words, non-essential.

You, Athena? Public Relations? Heavens, they must truly despise their crew. How many have you shot already?

Your concerns are appreciated, Crewman Athena, however there are larger concerns at work than your own needs. We have a ship full of crew that needs supplies as well as a need to not offend local planetary governments.

Unless you would prefer we cause another incident?

How long will it take us to resupply given these changes?

As I recall, the local planetary government on Cadacus Primary was offended by the actions of the captains. Not the crew.

You still haven’t told us what you stole from them.

You'll have to discuss that with them. We've allotted a little over three weeks to gather what we need. If they need longer, then we'll adjust for that.
