Job Offer [text; sent to all character inboxes at various points in May and June]

On behalf of my employer, I'm looking to hire a few people who are capable and discreet. If you have skills in any of the following areas, and you would be interested in occasional work, please let me know, and we'll arrange a task for you. If you complete it satisfactorily, it could lead to further jobs.

- Information gathering
- Infiltration
- Surveillance (short term or long term)
- Item retrieval
- Hacking
- General security
- Forensic investigation and testing
- Anything else that seems to you like it might be useful in an investigation

Mr Lane's primary requirements are that no one is seriously hurt or killed and that you keep the work you do for him to yourself. It's all right if you have a teammate in mind, as long as the task is suited to that kind of work and you can fulfil the request without drawing attention to yourselves. Payment depends on the task, but should average around 200 sencs for an evening or two of work.

It's also all right if you're working for someone else; Mr Lane is willing to hire you through your employer if your employer is unwilling to allow you to take the task as a freelance assignment. However, you may not share the details of any assignments Mr. Lane gives you with anyone else, including that employer.

[ Snake may not know much about Ryuuzaki, but he can accept that this was the best way to get the word out and that he's locked everything down.

It also helps that he doesn't hesitate to offer a time and place to meet. ]

Yes. They have a new pastry I want to try.

[The next day, L is indeed seated at a table in the shop a little before midday, with a cup of coffee and a large thing in front of him on the table that is almost assuredly some planet's idea of a fruit-flavored pastry.]

[ Snake arrives on time, but it doesn't surprise him to see that Ryuuzaki has made a point of getting here early. He strikes him as the methodical type, to say the least.

He nods to him and then stands in the short line to get his own coffee -- a simple drip, no sugar or cream added. He slides into the seat across from Ryuuzaki. Just looking at that dessert makes his teeth hurt. ]

So, how is it?

[ It's not actually what they're here to talk about, but Snake figures they should ease in. ]

As good as it looks.

[This is said so blandly that it might be taken to mean that he doesn't like it -- but he does, and the slight brightening of his expression shows it.]

You've settled in well here?

[They don't really know each other with any degree of intimacy, but this is a common social pleasantry, and apart from that, Snake saved L's life once. There's that, and there's also the fact that someone who's restless will work differently from someone who's gotten comfortable.]

[ Snake doesn't have much of a sweet tooth compared to most people, so he can't say that Ryuuzaki's words ring that true with him. But Ryuuzaki isn't a particularly emotive person, so it's anyone's guess whether he's enjoying it, or if this was just a pretext for them to meet.

At the question, Snake drums his fingertips on the tabletop and then shrugs. ] Don't know if I'd go that far.

[ Yes, he has a place to stay and steady work, but this kind of life isn't the norm for him, and no matter what creature comforts they might find here, they're still in a foreign place, far far away from home. ]

But I know my way around, sure. [ That might be a better way of putting it. ]
