looking for an engineer for a side project.
experience with bioweapons preferred.
if you need ultimate execution details to work, don't bother.
you'll just be wasting both of our time.
information is need to know.
[And, for visibility's sake, he attaches an image of one of these sitting on the railing of his treehouse.]

are you a bioengineer?

[ Because really, how can she resist asking? Though she's curious about the lizard's inclusion. Gabriel why... ]

thought you weren't into weaponization.

[ If he thinks he's going to build himself some bioweapons to use on others, he might as well let her know not to bother. If he's looking into something else, or happens to be curious about his own nanomachines, however... ]

second opinion doesn't hurt.
[And hey, maybe she'll give him the skinny on Jack.
She won't.]no subject
Have you been well?
[ Because of course she's going to ask that.
She'll at least say he's well and try to get information in return. Have a little faith; she learned from the best. (That's you.)]no subject
things don't change much here.
we'll see what happens when we move again.

I should hope we don't move again. Even if these pacdiscs given to us allow us to re-enact The Sword in the Stone. What was it, Higitus Figitus? That old Disney movie.

Anyways, I'm not a bioengineer, but I know a guy.
[ Reaper gets Saren Arterius' contact info sent to him. ]
Private; Text
would you consider him reliable?
no subject
Just tell him Nihlus sent you. Won't promise you it'll butter him up, but he might be a bit more inclined to listen.

i don't take orders well.
and i prefer explosions.
[Look how funny he is.]

Reaper is Gabriel Reyes.
She's known, of course. Angela had told her not long after she arrived. But she'd never had to confront it. It had been hard enough to reconcile her image of Reyes with the man who killed her Commander and destroyed Overwatch.
On top of that, now she's starting to question whether she knows what really destroyed Overwatch.
Once she's thoroughly worked herself up to it, she finally replies. ]
but you're not stupid enough to get caught up in an explosion.
it didn't happen the way they said it did, did it?
text ; private
[Its impossible to tell in text, but he's interested. For however insane he might be now, some parts of Reyes were easy to dredge up. His tactical mind and critical thinking skills were easy to coax and encourage. It was easy to blame Gabriel Reyes. He's sure plenty of people still believe he'd triggered the explosion.
But he hadn't.]

Or maybe it's a test. Jack had tested her too, hadn't he? (Even though it backfired on him.)
Besides, she's been mulling this over for months. She has a few ideas. ]
it was personal. you'd want to look him in the eye when you killed him. so close-range weapons like a knife, maybe a gun. even if you wanted to blow him up, you wouldn't be in the building when it blew. you'd be somewhere with a good vantage point to watch. so you were fighting and a third person blew up hq to wipe both of you out.
so. am i getting warmer?
text ; private
[Which was as much of a confirmation as he would offer. The idea of whether it was premeditated or not is not information he bothers to give -- it wouldn't change her opinion, and it was also none of her business as far as he was concerned.]
i'm not that sort of psychopath.
text ; private
Lena's sure he knows she's holding back. She wonders if he's laughing. ]
so which part did i get wrong?
text ; private
[There's a pause between messages. This might have been a harder conversation to have if it wasn't over text -- truth be told, Lena Oxton's entire persona was a result of the failure of the organization.
It still makes him angry.]
if you get back, that is.

Sometimes she feels like the only one who still gives a shit.
And now with the threats. She should've seen that coming too. ]
what's that supposed to mean
text ; private
[And who was to say that their turn would ever come. But also, he could kill her. That was a given.
He makes no plans to, unless she gets in his way. Just like everyone else. Maybe after he's taken Jack out.]
text ; private
Ugh. She's starting to get paranoid. ]
right.
changed your mind about going after ex-agents?
text ; private
[Your paranoia fuels this old grump.]

ouch, my pride.
you seemed so excited about wiping us all out. or was that talon's mission? you're their lapdog after all.
[ If being diplomatic didn't work, maybe pissing him off will.
Or maybe he'll just keep messing with her. Who knows. ]
text ; private
Too bad.]
guess that's just another mystery you'll have to solve. talon's not here.
text ; private
Again, lucky it's text and not video. ]
*you're* talon, aren't you?

i'm reaper.

ha. ha.
you know that's a stupid name.

don't think all of the codenames have been used up between then and now. kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel there.
