[Deep breaths. This is fine. This is all going to be fine. They can do this.]
[But if he broadens the search pool, the better the chances of this working out. As much as he hates to think about what he'd learned, as much as he wants to pretend it's all okay...]
[His voice is steady as ever, over the TAB. Despite the late hour.]
I'm looking for someone good with data extraction and compilation. Especially someone who can do that for alien or unfamiliar tech.
Maybe even translating unknown languages. I can't say for sure.
I'll take any help you can offer.

And yeah. Yeah, I did.

...Anything not human is automatically alien.
He's outed himself previously as a synthetic, but no way is he offering it up now.]
...That does narrow the subset, but ah. I was hoping for a general neighborhood--what do they call themselves, have they contacted you before, do you know where they're from--
If you will tell me more about the circumstances, I can go very fast.
And if you were to tell me what the data is for.
Can't work miracles without a sample, though.

I don't have a lot of that information. They're the Galra. I don't know where they come from, they've contacted the entire universe by now, back home.
... And I don't know what kind of data is even all there.
no subject
Users, man. It's right there in the definition file.
...Besides, the puzzle before him is more important.]
Unlikely. The universe is an imprecise but very large quantity.
You don't, ah. Actually have--what are we supposed to pull it from, this Galra data?
Is there, ah, like a file? Do you want it translated or do you want something decrypted?
...What are we analyzing, exactly?
no subject
From something of mine. Apparently there's files embedded in it somewhere. But it's not in any language spoken here.
I just need the data pulled and translated.
no subject
...Where exactly is home?
[Grinning as points tick over in his favor.
If dude's really just looking for an urgent rush job, priority one, he might be less particular about the how.]
Man, extraction I excel at.
Translation--heh. Between-factors analysis may teach us something, there. I'd have to see it, first.
no subject
[Easier than trying to explain everything else. Whoops.]
I need both, honestly. One without the other doesn't do much good, all things considered. It's pretty useless if I can't translate it.
no subject
[Noncommittal, bright, relentless friendliness covering the gaps in his internal cosmology--because he has no idea where that is in relation to LA.]
...Never said I couldn't do it. You may be looking at a partial, though. Are the source data intact and complete?
And ah, who would I send them to?
no subject
Send them to? You mean besides me?
no subject
Code? [Nothing false about the interest, immediate, with a genial sort of smirk.] Breaking. Code.
My methods are a little more--functional--than you're used to, but I am very good at it.
Huh? [A lexical imprecision, maybe. The guy looks concerned. He can always pretend to be a data cruncher: ] Oh, no, not that! We can include other researchers later. Once we know what we have.
I mean, am Clu.
...What's your name, man?
no subject
[This would be easier if he did. If he knew anything about it. Any solid information.]
What are your methods, exactly? [Because better to be safe than sorry.] Right -- sorry.
It's Shiro.
no subject
[Oh, solid info he can get. But it just might cost his new friend an arm and a leg.]
Hah. These days, most of it's done through the TAB interface--I'm missing some essential tools for the setup I would've used back home, but the processes are near-identical. Very effective. Automation of basic operations, many times over...
[He can't quite keep the gleam from his eye--like the greed of a teenager with their first IPhone--]
It would help if I could get a look at your device.
...Shiro.
Looking forward to working with you, man.

[The data is important. If there's anything that can help his team faster, then... they need to get it. Right when they get back. If not sooner.]
[So... anything goes, right?]
I'm not really comfortable waving it around over the network, publicly. Since it's sort of personal.
no subject
Huh? Oh, I meant the file itself. [True and easy through his teeth.] Our results will be less spectacular if it's no good. I mean, garbage in, garbage out, right?
Ah. Sensitive data? I think I understand.
...You'd rather meet somewhere?
no subject
... Probably better, yeah.
hi I'm the slowest tagger ever created
Oh, I can be very discreet.
D'you have a preference? Some sort of neutral locale? There's no shortage of parks or libraries or dodgier venues in Region 1.
