I.

I'm not asking for anyone's help making this decision, but I've got a big one that dropped in my lap, and I'm thinking about the whole process now. You know—dealing with the whole 'this is going to affect me for the rest of my life' thing.

It's not fun.

I think I know what I'm going to do, but pulling the trigger, so to speak...it sucks.

II.

[ Several minutes later, a for sale ad is sent out from Tex's network address: ]

For sale:

2 android-style robots. These are empty shells without any sort of intelligence included.

1 suit of Freelancer armor. Cobalt blue. Sniper rifle not included.

Prices on these items are negotiable. Please make a reasonable offer.

I did, but it wasn't supposed to be yet. And besides, who knows whether those plans will even work out.

You never met Church, but he was here. The Alpha. When he disappeared, his stuff was left behind.

The Alpha was here? Damn, I would have liked to meet him. You kept his stuff all this time?

I'd say keep the armor in case somebody needs parts.

I'm forcing my own hand. If I have the robot here I'm going to use it. That's all there is to it.

And yeah, Church has been here twice. He hasn't been back in a long time though, over a year, and I don't see the point in keeping this bulky stuff just in case.

Parts can be manufactured pretty easily. I'd like to have the cash, if someone's willing to pay for it.

Do what you have to do, then. I'd hold the bulky stuff for you if you wanted, but I don't have the cash to buy anything. Any takers?

Turns out Adrien's going to hold the robots for me. That way I can use one if I have to, with advance notice. So I can get used to them being less accessible and see if this is really what I want to do.

And I do have someone interested in the armor.

Sounds like a good plan. How often were you switching before?

Let me know if they fall through, maybe I can scrape something together.

I used to do it daily, back on the ship. After the accident a few months ago, I quit doing it at all for a long time. Now it's more like a couple times a week. But it's harder than it used to be.

Yeah, I was probably pushing it a lot, a lot of the time.

This'll be a good test drive for you, then, to practice being stuck in your body like the rest of us are. It's not as bad as it sounds.

Did I ever tell you about my accident?

No, you didn't. What accident? Here?

It was during an evacuation that ended in the Moira crashing. My escape pod didn't eject properly and so its trajectory was all wrong when it entered atmosphere. It crashed and my body ended up in a year-round coma. It hasn't been quite the same since. That's why I haven't been using my robot much, my body is still kind of in recovery.
