❧ 002 [video]
[When the TAB first flickers to life, all that's visible is an intricately scarred cheek with just the slightest peek of ivory fangs past blue lips. There's the faint sound of something shifting about and finally, Kurt comes into full view.
He's sitting on the edge of an old stone fountain, his tail swishing back and forth behind him, a grin plastered across his face.] I know very little about this holiday, but I've read a few things in an attempt to try and understand better.
[Meaning that he has forgone all the really romantic and couple-esque things about 'Valentine's Day' or whatever they would be calling it on Thisavrou.]
Giving chocolate to someone you like is traditional and I have more than a few friends and other people that I enjoy being around, so ... [He reaches over to pick up a small black box and pops the lid off of it, revealing the candy inside.]
Who wants some chocolate? [A soft laugh follows shortly after his inquiry as he replaces the lid and clutches the box to his chest, smile somehow broadening.]
I'm more than willing to deliver it, too.
(ooc: cw for anyone that decides to read the thread with kurt and j. [mentions of self-harm, internalized transphobia and ... self-loathing?])

[He blushes sheepishly at that comment and the spirited laughter, pleased with himself both for sharing and making Varric laugh.] Oh, that's extremely flattering, but shouldn't you save your money for things you might want or need?

[The bashful nature of the man on the video feed was... oddly refreshing. Compared to Hawke, who drank her compliments inexplicably faster than her booze, it was nice to know that some people appreciated simple flattery.]
Kid I live in a house with five other people. Groceries all but pay for themselves. I can't even buy enough alcohol to eat away at the change in my pockets. A few chocolates here and there won't hurt anything.

[Unsurprisingly, Kurt is the exact opposite of Hawke; he's far too timid for his own good most of the time and compliments turn him into a plum, but he's getting a little better at accepting them.]
Oh, really? I live in a mansion with quite a few other people, too. I mean, I certainly won't complain about more chocolate, especially if I can share it.
no subject
A mansion? Living large, are you? My good friend used to have one of those. Bit big -- never knew how people could keep it clean.
no subject
Ja, but not by myself. A friend that you know here? Most people hire housekeepers, but since there are more than enough of us, we can all help out with cleaning.
no subject
[Now Varric smirked, even laughed a bit.]
I'd offer to help clean around our place, but I'm a bit too short to dust or do the dishes very much. Brooms are difficult too. [Another chuckle.] But yes, a friend of mine here -- Hawke's her name. Now we both live together in our new place, but back home... It belonged to her family.

[Oh, hey, that totally answers the questions he'd had about Varric's stature way back when they'd met by the caves.
Now, he has to make sure he doesn't say or do anything rude.] That does seem like it would be a bit of a predicament, ja. 'Hawke,' huh? Interesting name. Did she inherit the old mansion? Do you enjoy living together? [Sorry, Varric. He usually has a lot of questions.]
no subject
Something like that. More like... exposed the fact that it was being used to traffic slaves, found the will that proved it belonged to her mother, rather than the uncle that stole it, then bought it outright from some earnings she came up with from a mission we went on.
Simple stuff, right?
no subject
You are ... making a joke, right? Since it's actually not simple at all.
That sounds like quite the mess. It's gut that she was able to buy her home back, though, and claim what was rightfully hers.
no subject
No, not simple at all. [The odd pronunciation made Varric's brows furrow, but otherwise he didn't say much. Not everyone was born speaking the trade tongue.]
That's Hawke for you. Kicking ass and retaking her name.
no subject
Didn't think so. [Not much he can do about the accent, being born and raised in Germany. It only affects certain words, though.]
She sounds tough! Perhaps, I'll get to meet her some day.
no subject
[Further complicating the matter was the fact that Kurt didn't look anything like someone who might have come from the Anderfels. But he could mull all of that over later.]
Maybe. She's loud and a little hard to miss, after all.
no subject
He raises a hand to his chin, humming in contemplation then perking up, the end of his tail dipping around to take hold of the TAB so he can gesture with both of his hands around his face.]
What does she look like?
no subject
[There was a clear fondness in Varric's voice as he spoke, and a soft smile that drifted over his lips. Right here was his second favorite thing to talk about, coming in right behind himself -- Hawke.]
no subject
Dark hair and blue eyes ... Wait a minute-- Kurt jolts with realization, mouth falling open in surprise.] I have met her! She talked to me over the network when I was small - back when I had gotten sick.
no subject
[Except not really.]
Damn unforgettable, don't you think?
no subject
[They may not have gotten to talk long, but what they exchanged was good and Marian had helped him perk up at the time.
If she and Varric are friends, he'll have to make more of an effort to speak to her again. He likes Varric, so he's almost positive that he'd enjoy talking to Marian, too.]
no subject
Just don't be put off if she sasses you too much, alright? It's how she says hello. And goodbye. And... basically everything, really.
no subject
He snickers at Varric's 'warning,' lifting his shoulders in a partial shrug.] It will take more than a bit of sass to drive me away.
no subject
[Since he wasn't a kid and all, anymore.]
no subject
He doesn't want to seem rude, that's for sure. Besides, it's a drink - what harm could come from that?] I would like that, Varric.
no subject
Sounds like a plan, then. I'll work on convincing Hawke to come out and join us.
no subject
Ach, that would be perfect! What better way to get to know each other than having a drink and chatting?
no subject
That's what I was thinking, kid. Can't go wrong with a drink.
no subject
Should I message you the next time I have a free evening?
