I've been thinking about pets lately. I've never had one myself but I've obviously known a lot of people who do or did. There's always interesting stories around how they got it or like funny stories about things pets do.

Mostly, just want to hear some pet stories. Is that weird? I guess I don't care if it's weird.

[Instead of answering on the network, Ronan goes out in search of Adam. When he finds his better half, he walks up and drapes his long arms around Adam's shoulders.]

Pets are great. I took Chainsaw out earlier and she flew back with an eyeball in her beak.

[He pays more attention to things than anyone might guess. Just not always at the most convenient times. Undeterred, Ronan's hands settle on Adam's waist.]

She gets that from me.

[They both very well know that she gobbled that eyeball right up.]

[This way, Adam will be able to recognize his accent - deeper and a bit more refined. He could do a video, but ... he doesn't look the best right now.]

I'm currently in the same boat as you when you mention never having had a pet. Admittedly, I've wondered what it would be like, though.

One of my friends mentioned a tree on the ship that grew kittens. Wouldn't that be amazing to see?

[Good, good. That saves him the trouble of having to turn on video or switch to text.]

They do? [Maybe Peter had been telling the truth!] Would it be possible to ask them if they know anything else about pets that might have been on the ship?

[ he's not sure adam actually wants to hear from him, but he actually has information about this so he figures he'll offer it at least. ]

there was a vet on the ship. ahab worked there (he has a dog with an eye patch), might check if they had any animals held in there put on pacdisc. usually it was just the kitten tree cats, idk who grabbed them though.

I'd never really had a pet of my own until someone here got a dog through the Ingress who had puppies.

Mine's named after an old friend, and while he doesn't bite people's extremities as much as he used to, he'll still take the chance to nibble a finger or an ear if he gets it.

...The dog, not the friend.

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2017-01-25 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's really improved. Still, sometimes I think he's just biding his time.

Once upon a time, there was a dog who loved pets more than anything in the world. The dog was meant to be a guard, you see, but all the would-be intruder would have to do would be to pet it once or twice, and it would immediately become excited and forget its vital guard duties.

This dog had a great deal of exceptional traits. The more excited it got, the more its neck would lengthen. One day, a little human came along. This human was meant to be captured, for its SOUL was very valuable to the creatures that lived in the area. But as fate would have it, a few pets to the dog's head was enough to defuse its attacks entirely. Soon it was simply happy to have the company and affection that it craved.

The human pet and pet and just kept petting. The dog's neck grew longer and longer until it was more akin to a giraffe than anything canid. But the human could not stop. The human needed to see how far this would go.

The dog was ecstatic. At long last, it had love and attention. It could stay like this forever.

Then the human killed it with a single blow.

The End.

=)

You asked for stories, did you not?

I personally can attest to this one's veracity.

I used to have a cat. Orange tabby. I once convinced my red-haired friend to wear him on his head and see how long it took our commander to notice.

It didn't take long. And I had to fetch my friend's ale for weeks afterwards.

It was worth it.

Oh, no. He was plenty happy to have a resting spot for a few minutes.

I have to admit it was far more humorous than subtle. I thought so, anyhow.

don't ask me how it works—my friend made and programmed it. but yeah it acts pretty much like a dog. its tail even wags when it's happy.

You know, I never had many pets...it was hard enough to keep enough food for the family around growing up.

I've been around quite a few, though...my nephew loved bringing strays home when he was younger. My sister and her husband used to have varied reactions, to say the least. We never knew what would turn up next at their place. They weren't usually dangerous, though. Not like the terrors my wife's former boss has. Vornskyrs...they'll eat you alive if they aren't wearing their collars and being controlled. I'm just glad I never spent much time around them.

As an adult, my companions have been mechanical...they're far more intelligent than pets, though. They seem almost human, sometimes.
