Just the travel part, or the magic and summoning too?

[That bit hinges on a big topic that he's going to try and condense. Deep breath.]
It works with a spell that was cast in another world I used to be in. Time Compression: Someone used magic to squeeze all of time and space - because it's connected, I guess - into one point. The spell itself was undone, but something that big still has ripples, like when you drop something into water [he's miming dropping something with one hand and the ripples moving with another, it's terrible], except it's going out across the different universes and across time. And the ripples can move people, or objects, or places, into different worlds and different times. That was how I ended up in that world in the first place.
So what this thing [a wave at the device] is supposed to do, basically, is let you pick a point in time and space, then it finds the right ripple.
[After a moment for drama, he deflates a little.] Does that make sense? Because I have no idea about the technical or magical details, just the idea.

She pauses for a few moments to reflect on what he's said, and then shrugs.]
Makes as much sense as it can. But I don't think there's anything I can do to fix it without taking it apart. And maybe talking to whoever built it.

I can't get you the people who built it; they're on that other world. But, uh... How good are you with this kind of thing? [A vague wave.] Tech stuff.
[He's not entirely opposed to her taking it apart, just careful.]

[He whistles, impressed, deliberates a moment, lets his gaze unfocus again, and then decides:] ... Okay. As long as you put it back exactly how it was if you can't fix it. 'cause my magic's on there too.
