001 ☾ video

[She’s definitely glad she went to Earth instead of staying in Arlia; there’s only so much you can do in a rural village and her stay on Earth has at least taught her how to use a communicator. Though some other technological inventions are still an anomaly to her, she’ll figure it out eventually.

When the feed turns on, a blue-haired girl with pointed ears is shown with a light-hearted smile. In the background, the lone tree in the garden can be seen.]

Hello everyone! My name is Rena. Rena Lanford. I’m sorry for interrupting, but I’d like to ask a few questions if you have the time to spare. It shouldn’t take too much of your time!

[She takes in a quick, deep breathe before continuing.]

First of all, is it possible to venture out of your official job position? Like assist in other sections? I mean I’d still do the job I was assigned foremost, but I feel like it’s such a waste to not use healing Symbology, you know?

Second, since people are from other worlds, does “magic” seem familiar to any of you? From what I read in stories it seems similar to Symbology so I’d like to compare them!

Lastly: is there any way to get any items from back home? I was sure I had my hairpin, but I seem to have misplaced it…

[And it was a gift from her mother so she’d really like that back.]

Anyway, I... believe that's it! Thank you for the time! And… sorry. I didn’t mean to talk so much.

Yes. In fact, our people had a long history with the race -- the Balmera produce powerful crystals from their bodies, which our people would harvest, and repay by infusing it with life force through an energy ritual.

[Are you still with her?]

However, we found a Balmera that the Galra had been taking crystals from heedlessly. It was nearly drained of all its energy. Naturally, I had to perform the ritual and heal it.

A little, but -- please, it's nothing to fret over. That energy is being shared, not sacrificed.

Most of the quintessence comes from the harvested crystal itself. We channel it back into the Balmera.

I'm not sure what it would be, myself, but... I'm certain there must be one. Even if it's only to provide for the races that care for it, and protect it.

So far, my duties seem to be focused on the crew's pets.

But who knows what other creatures we may end up encountering along the way?

Only my own. ... oh, that's right! I haven't introduced the space mice, have I?

[On cue, here's one up on her shoulder!]

Not that I can pronounce. Squeaking like a mouse is difficult.

... poorly, to tell the truth. So far, I can't speak with much more than these mice.
patchricide: (You became the moon?)

No, I haven't. And we only encounter a few animals while traveling through space, so...

[She looks thoughtful for a moment. This could have some merit!]

How does one strengthen telepathy? Through meditation?
patchricide: (I swear to space Jesus)

Frequently. ... perhaps repeated contact with other creatures would be more productive?

Adaptations, mostly. You would be surprised at the G-Forces these mice can take. [... not that she's tested the limits or anything!]

Oh, well, it's...

[She contemplates it for a moment. How to explain it without getting too deep into physics?]

Whenever you move, there's a force that pushes back on you. It's usually not strong enough to notice, but when you start going extremely fast, it grows very powerful.

Yes, exactly! [Hey, the fact that she knows anything makes this a lot easier.]

To be honest, I never had much reason to study normal mice before I both lost the chance and met these space mice. However, I'd like to think that mine are smarter than the average mouse.
