[So, with much effort, the MID starts broadcasting a close up of...well, it's a very green eye.]

Is...Is this thing on? Does the light mean it's on? Please let the light mean that it's on...

[The figure pulls back to reveal...a face! Just a normal face, covered in...soot? Burns? One of his bangs might be on fire.]

Okay, so...first off, I guess I should introduce myself. My name's Darin Altway, Master Blacksmith. I'm new here and I guess my new job is mechanical engineer on the Ingress?

[Darin is pointedly keeping the camera close to his face. He looks nervous.]

So uh...full disclosure? I don't know what an Ingress is. Or half of what these things are.

Most of what these things are.

...Almost all of these things.

And I lost my blacksmith hammer, so I've kind of been making due with the tools on hand and hahaha...so, funny story, you can't just hit things with hammers to make them work? Crazy, right? So...if anyone who knows anything about...uh...any of these gadgets and gizmos could come on down to engineering and give me a crash course in...um... everything, I would really appreciate--

[He's cut off by what sounds like something backfiring and creating a much larger fire.]

GAH!! OW!! HOT!! HOT HOT HO--

[Genji is rather used to being stared at, not to mention his sudden entrance and order does kind of call for some surprise, so he doesn't bother wasting time focusing on that. Instead he zeroes in on the fact that Darin has the extinguisher in hand already with some relief.

Why he appears to have been attempting to shake it is another question entirely, but a question for a time when there isn't a fire happening.]

Let me see that. I can use it to put the fire out.

[Which is an even bigger priority now than it was when Genji first saw what was happening.]

Oh...right! Here, heads up!

[He tosses the extinguisher to his new friend.]

What else can I do??

Just stay back!

[Thankfully with the extinguisher in hand, Genji is able to put the growing fire out in short order. Only once he's absolutely certain he's gotten any trace of the fire out does he let out a breath of relief, putting the extinguisher down to focus his attention on Darin.]

Now that the problem is dealt with... my name is Genji Shimada, and I'm part of the Ingress Defense team. Care to tell me what happened here?

Name's Darin Altway...I'm a new engineer here. It's nice to meet you.

Y'see I just got assigned to this post but...I'm gonna be honest here, I'm a master blacksmith, not a savant. My world doesn't have technology even close to the things that are on this ship. I was trying to figure everything out when the console started to spark. So, I tried to get in there to see what was going on and, man let me tell you, these consoles don't take kindly to you prying them open.

I'm glad you came when you did.

[Genji is quiet as he listens to Darin's account, and... well. He's glad for the faceplate hiding his expression, because the one of disbelief that he's wearing right now is pretty impressive. It's difficult to figure one how this situation couldn't be one huge mistake on someone's part, and for a moment Genji has to consider what to say before he speaks.]

I see. As you already seem aware of your need for training from your video earlier, I won't retread that ground. You may want to visit the medbay for your burns however.

[And then he eases, the business tone of his voice turning to something more casual as he continues,] I'm new here as well. If nothing else, you've given me an interesting first day on the job.

[He's teasing.]

[That's okay, Darin loosens up when he realized this masked and awesomely armored stranger has a sense of humor. He laughs.]

Hey, I gotta keep you on your toes, right Genji?

Speaking of, that armor of yours is amazing...! I've never seen anyone move that fast in full body armor like that. Do you mind if I ask what it's made of?
