[ Brevity is a virtue of Venom's: he doesn't mince words when he throws his very concise, very curt statement up onto the network, staying pragmatic for the sake of time. It's a bit of a deviation from his standard to rely on text for communication, but he's in a bit of a bind right now. ]

Don't wander near West Leslie’s Fish Market and Creatatorium. It's one tourist trap you're gonna want to avoid.

[ He's absolutely not going to say that something fishy is going on because that pun is terrible, but it's implied. Heavily.

Actually, you know what, a picture is worth a thousand words: he sends a photo attachment approximating the area he's stumbled into, which he figures should speak for itself. A dim room with people strapped onto a bed, hooked up to suspicious-looking fluids; not exactly a vote of confidence cast in favor of this colony. ]

[ Listen, Venom respects the fact that Liquid is engaging in healthy (citation needed) sports activities if it means he's not getting hooked up to questionable fish-mutation beds. ]

[ He wasn't actually looking to have a fun time in fishland, either, but this is still unexpected for him. ]

[The sports activities would be perfectly healthy if it wasn't for the fact that his fame led to some... interesting developments. Ones that he's keeping under his metaphorical hat for the moment.]

I doubt most people are. I take it you're not out there for a meal, then?

[Clearly, he should not go looking for seafood anytime soon.]

But of course, Venom is taking this as seriously as he takes most things: the subject of people being tied up and experimented upon for purposes beyond their understanding is a sore one for him, predictably. ]

It's looking like I'll have to change plans. Nothing I haven't done before.

[It's not like Liquid hasn't had his share of experimentation, although most of that happened while he was a kid, or before he was even alive.]

At this rate you're going to have to investigate any place you go for food just to make sure it's okay. So what's the plan now?

[He can't not be curious about how to go from there.]

Extraction. Not gonna be an easy process.

[ Implied is that he'll need backup. Yes, he can somehow lead a gang of kids out of their prisons, but he can't exactly carry 20 prone people out of a loosely secure area on his own— even if he does it in increments, he's likely going to get caught. ]

I see that. I'd offer something in the way of assistance, but I've got some. Things to work through.

[Not that he'd be the biggest on helping not-dad's fishy jailbreak adventure, but...]

How are you on distractions?

[ 'Things to work through'. Patently not Venom's problem, but he looks down at this text and has a moment of considering the pros and cons of inquiring.

After all, Liquid extended the courtesy of offering assistance (which surprises Venom). As much as he knows that staying out of Liquid's life is probably for the best, he still Thinks about it. ]

[His hands would be full if he always had hands, but a run-in before the end of his Amazing Sports Adventure has made things a little difficult.

But. Distractions, he'd be damn good at.]

[ The fact of the matter is that Liquid would probably be a great diversion, but Venom doesn't know about his... situation, and is thus still exercising his 'leave Eli alone' protocol. ]

[It's probably for the better; it'd be his luck he'd turn back to normal at the most inopportune time or something.]

Suppose I'm slightly more open to the concept than I was when I was twelve.

[And maybe all this time having to work with a big crew has, very slightly, mellowed him out. Very, very slightly.]

(This is predicated upon the fact that no one has thought to inform Venom about the fact that Liquid was a Real Life Terrorist, but you know what, that's that and this is this.) ]

[ Throwback to that sick burn from like, 20 years ago. He means it slightly nicely, and as much as he knows that he shouldn't embroil himself in Snake matters any further than he has, well.

Venom's never been too great at shelving his empathy completely. ]

[As far as he's concerned, he always used his head. Just, apparently, not in the way people wanted him to.

It's temporary in that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. I'm working on making it work for me.

[Y'know, as one does. At least he seems okay with it, right?]

[ This probably isn't the right time for levity, but Venom's lips work just a fraction upwards at this incoming text. ]

[ 'Making it work' seems to be a specialty of Liquid's. ]

[Yeah, that's Liquid alright. Or, at least, he tries. He does a damn good job of not giving up, at least.]

[ That's largely a dry admonishment, because he knows that Liquid plain won't heed him if Venom tells him to be careful and not to get in over his head— two things he has no right telling this not-kid.

There are, actually, a wealth of questions that Venom has for Liquid, but not's probably not the time for them. Not when there are sick half-fishpeople and Liquid is trying to figure out how to keep his limbs, so: ]
