( this isn’t subtle, exactly, but sometimes the direct approach is the most effective. her tone, when dutch addresses the network at large, is crisp, pointed. ) I got the welcome speech loud and clear, but here's two questions for you anyway:

One, who here has heard of the J, the Quad, the Company, or Reclamation Agents? ( if they were telling the truth, the answer should be no one, or hardly anyone. dutch isn’t sure what outcome she’s hoping for: that they were telling the truth, or that this is a slaver ship or one of khlyen’s schemes. no, that’s a lie. she knows exactly which outcome she’s hoping for, but it’s a grim kind of hope. ) Two, I’m going to assume some of you know how to fight. I’m looking for sparring partners, so who’s ready to get their arse kicked?

( dutch has some frustration to work off, and there’s only so much a punching bag can do. )

Oh, and lastly? ( it’s a long shot, but still her tone shifts, something chiding that can’t hide the affection underlying her words. ) Johnnyboy, if you’re here, stop drooling over new tech and find me.

[He's always in the market, looking for people to learn from.

And like he says, he's there at the training room. All of 5'5" and sixteen, dressed in the clothes he described.]

[avicula]

( dutch isn't tall, but she's taller than he is, wearing all leather. when she spots him, she smiles. it's more of an acknowledgement than any real expression of happiness. she's not happy to be here, let there be no doubt about that. )

[He nods at her- doesn't question the leather. If she's willingly wearing that much then she must be used to it.]

Are you ready?

We're doing hand to hand, right?

( which means that dutch won't be needing her weapons, and so she sets aside a blaster and some knives — though not all of the ones she carries on her person, that would be foolish — and her jacket, leaving her in a tank top and the leather pants. ) Now I am.

[fullcowl]

Ri...

[And then he just watches her disarm- a little.]

You're very prepared.

[avicula]

I'm a Killjoy.

( like that explains everything. honestly? for dutch, it kind of does. )

I don't think I've ever heard of them.

( the point of her addressing the network had been to find out if there's some truth to the whole bit about different universes and corners of the world, and yet dutch isn't too happy about what she's found. )

Do you know bounty hunters?

[He nods.]

I've heard about them. They're people who bring criminals and fugitives in, right?

[avicula]

Pretty much.

( she settles in a defensive position opposite him. ) That's what I do.

[fullcowl]

Ready?

[He settles into his usual fighting stance waiting for an affirmative, before throwing the first punch.

It's got some power behind it, but he's not sparking with the energy that comes from using One for All. Not yet, anyway.]

[avicula]

Born ready.

( she doesn't block the punch. instead, dutch sidesteps it, retaliating with an elbow to his side. she's pulling her punches, for now. until she has a better idea if he can hold his own against her. )

[He takes the elbow, wincing, but switches tactics to attempting to grab her by the arm and throw her down.]

[avicula]

( dutch lets him throw her, partially because evading would have been difficult and partially because she wants to see what he does with it, how he does it. she rolls on the landing, coming up on her feet, twisting to aim a kick at his stomach. )

[fullcowl]

[It seems a little like a judo throw. There's quite a bit of power behind it, even as scrawny as he looks at first.

He'll move in the direction of the kick and try to grab it, before aiming a sweep at her other leg.]

( dutch knows a lot about using one's opponent's movements and weight against them; she passed scrawny a while ago, but as when she'd first started fighting, she'd only been eight. so while none of the styles of fighting she's been taught were called judo, she's familiar with the principle.

she pulls back before he can grab her leg, sidestepping his sweep to aim at his solar plexus with the flat of her palm instead. )

[Izuku's not exactly scrawny anymore, but he's fairly reliant on technique when he doesn't want to bring out raw power.

And his arms definitely can't take that right now.

He takes the hit, doubling over, and making a grab for her arm while it's connected, attempting to pull her off balance.]

[avicula]

( dutch's fighting is all ingrained instinct and finely honed control by now, over a decade of training with high stakes having honed her skills. she twists her arm out of his grip before he can really pull her off balance, taking a step back to let him catch his breath. )

You fight like you're holding back.

[fullcowl]

[He settles back into a defensive position, staring over at her.]

I can't risk going all out.

[His body can't take the raw power of One for All. If he goes to 100%, he breaks his bones- he's not going to do that for a sparring session.]

[avicula]

Why not?

( her tone is conversational, but she is curious. dutch is holding back, too, but it's not because she's going to hurt herself. she's more likely to break his bones than her own. )

[fullcowl]

I'll break my limbs.

[Spoken like somebody who's broken his limbs many times.]

[avicula]

( now that gets her attention. )

Seems a bit counterproductive.

[fullcowl]

[It's a strange power, and his body wasn't exactly built to deal with the backlash from those super powered impacts.]

A little. I've been in for surgery a couple of times.

[avicula]

How's it work?

( "that doesn't seem normal" would be rude, wouldn't it? ) Not surgery. I know how that works.

[To be fair, it's definitely not normal.]

It's the drawback of my quirk. My body isn't strong enough to handle it at 100 percent, yet. I can manage it without injuring myself at 5 percent now though.
