springlocking: (that's just dumb)

[Charlie looks like a mess - her slightly frizzy hair now strongly resembles a Pomeranian, there are the beginnings of circles under her eyes, and her right eye is now yellow glass. Being in actual combat and dying and death seriously not being permanent have not done good things to her brain.

But she's not going to talk about that. Instead, she's gonna ask, in a slightly out-of-it tone:]

...did I miss anything? 'Side from classes - sorry to the teachers, by the way, but I was kinda dead. Can't... [She covers a yawn.] ...can't attend class when you're dead. Or reviving. I think.

How does it all work, anyway? How long's it take until you get used to it?

[She's maybe a bit too sleepy, it seems...]

[ It's actually not that simple, so Snake doesn't blame her for not knowing. ]

Supplies aren't the most plentiful around here. You should ask for something during the next mail drop.

[ Snake has to believe that she can avoid getting herself killed again between now and then. The whole revival thing is unnatural, he doesn't think it's a good idea to let it happen at all, let alone more than once. ]

[ Snake doubts that anyone here would want to live through that again, unless they were particularly sadistic. It's entirely possible that someone on the crew fits that profile, but if that's the case he doesn't want to know them.

He's had to deal with enough sadists in his life as it is, thank you. ]

It's hard to say. They're all dead now, but who's to say we haven't pissed someone else off for defending ourselves?

[ It's all a matter of perspective. Some might see them as ruthless murders. ]

[ He'll tempt fate all he wants, thank you very much.

That being said, Snake hadn't really intended to make Charlie get all doom and gloom either. It's not like he can be sure that this problem will continue to follow them, even if his instincts tell him that it will.

Still, not everyone needs to be as cynical as he is.

He glances down at the MID screen and shrugs. ]
Depends on how fast we run.

I was thinking more the latter, though I guess you could always ask for a ride off of here if you wanted to go that route.

[ Snake's tone is uncertain, and his eyes flick to the side as he shrugs. It's not in his plans, but he isn't going to stop someone from going it alone if they think they'll have better luck that way.

It sounds a lot more like a death sentence to him, but he's not here to order anyone around unless it has to do with stealth techniques. ]

[ There are definitely people around this ship who are good at joking through all the terrible things that happen. Snake isn't necessarily one of them, especially since his humor trends toward the dark and morbid.

One of his eyebrows ticks upward. ]
Friend of yours?

A concussion? What happened?

[ Snake would rather not jump to conclusions. People could get concussions from perfectly normal things like playing sports.

But here, it's hard not to assume the worst. ]

[ For a moment there Snake had figured the conversation would end right there. He's shut people out enough before to know what it looks like. But...

What he gets instead is arguably even more worrying. A child-killer? Like a serial killer? The Moira really knows how to toss more at him than he ever signed up for. ]

What do you mean, you took care of it?
soldiergenes: (liars and thieves)

[ An abandoned pizzeria? Seems like an odd place for something like that to go down, but then again, a murderer would want to carry out their sick plans in a place where they wouldn't easily be found.

While Charlie doesn't outright say it, the implication is clear. She's young enough that she must be struggling with what she did, and if there's something Snake is familiar with, it's coming to terms with killing someone. ]

You were defending yourself and whoever was involved. If he was killing kids, chances are he was beyond the point of no return anyway.

Sometimes it's easier to hear it from someone else instead of yourself.

[ Snake realizes he's showing his hand a little, but he figures most people here wouldn't be surprised to find out that he's killed. Once you've done it enough, it just shows on a person. ]
soldiergenes: (and more like my dad)

I'm not sure how good I am at talking, but I'm a decent listener, if you ever need that.

[ He's trying, okay. He's really not good with this kind of thing, but he's making the effort if nothing else. ]
