[The video post actually starts off with a kitten walking over the top of it, soft muffled talking with the heavy padding of paws over-foot for a moment, and then a "hey, hey, not right now." It's finally adjusted so Anakin can talk into the MID properly. He's still tired; those circles under his eyes aren't likely to go away any time soon, but it's countered with a small almost-smile. Not sad, not perfect, but present.]

Look, I know with everything the ship's been through in the last week, time is short and expensive. I'll try to keep this brief. With the recent mishandling of hostile situations on-board and with "relations" with our...host planets?

Obi-Wan, what would you even call them?

[As he's here and has ears and common sense, Kenobi is quick to take hold of Anakin's MID and address the network himself, although he's merely... correcting Anakin's word choices, anyway.]

Well, first, I wouldn't say it was mishandled. Nor would I call what came of that as relations. Otherwise, host planet seems just fine.

[Leave it to Kenobi to be pedantic. He smiles thinly into the camera and then disappears back off-screen for for the time being, leaving Skywalker to his pitch.

Anakin rolls his eyes as he takes the camera back.]

Anyway, we've both been thinking. All of you have, at some point or another, expressed pointed interest in what it is we do, and we think it's high time to take advantage of that.

[A pause as he carefully defers back to Obi-Wan. This is skirting new territory that he's not even sure how to press forward with, only that he can't do it alone.]

I think what Anakin is suggesting is that we make good use of our time here. There's no end in sight, so this is the perfect time to take stock in what we know and give credence to what we don't. In this case, the more the merrier.

[It's enough to cover the breadth of what they talked about, and therefore Kenobi feels satisfied in leaving the rest of this in Anakin's hand. Kitten now in tow, he disappears off-screen once more.]

I want to be clear that this isn't an obligation. [Not yet.] I'm--We are not asking you to give anything up, regardless of how the old Order did it. All I'm asking is that you want to help.

[He smirks into the camera, because...well. Yes, he's absolutely sure about this. To the point of self assurance, even if he has to constantly reinforce that where no one can see it.]

If you're going to carry my lightsaber, you're going to have to know how to use it.

[He hasn't followed up near enough. Hasn't pressed into the why, though he knows enough now to guess. He's been too distracted, but not with his attachments: with the concept of devastating them.

It's high time to fix that too.]

[It's the kind of nonsense claim he'd made as a Padawan. He knows what this sounds like.]

[She reminds him of himself...or Ahsoka, even, and that's good. That can be worked with.

In the next moment, he's shrugged it off. Levity is easy enough to breeze by, at least. It's a nice change of pace.]

Anyway, the point is, we've been through a lot on this ship that needs...a little peacekeeping. [That's putting it more nicely than he wants, but look, see, he can make concessions for the greater good.] We need to get back to that, the ship needs more of it, and there are only three of us here who really know what that means.

Knowing how to use a lightsaber also includes when.

Peacekeeping? So you mean for us to be some kind of law enforcement. I don't think that's what this ship needs. Or what I want.

[He scoffs outright that that. Though he's pushed that mandate a little too far at times.]

No, not law enforcement. Do you know how tedious that is? They have droids do it in the Core, back home. It's barely a job for people, let alone Jedi.

Then what do you mean by "peacekeeping?"

Peaceful resolution. [ Obi-Wan interjects here, pushing his way into the scene with all the grace he's known for. He's mostly allowed Anakin to take the lead, but that doesn't stop him from commenting. ]

We have always been peacekeepers, but also champions of the innocent and oppressed. The Jedi Order has no interest in politics or fame or fortune or war.

It hasn't always been this way. We've since lost our way, but that doesn't mean we can't correct our current path.

[rey squints a little when he enters the shot, but is at least willing to listen to what he has to say. and, honestly, it makes more sense and is more appealing than what emotions mcsandypants had been saying. besides, her knowledge of the jedi order (any any time during its history) amounts to basically jack shit.]

And I would learn how to use the Force?

If that's your intention, yes. Otherwise, we can teach you other practical lessons, such as negotiation or meditation.

[she's been thinking about this a lot since the ship was attacked. it's become clear to her that it's necessary.]

[No, he's not about to actually think that through and apply it to himself at the moment, that would be ridiculous.]

[ Obi-Wan clears his throat. That's enough of that. ]

I'd suggest thinking about whether there's a particular area of focus you're most interested in exploring. A balanced training regimen is typically suggested, but considering our duties otherwise, it may be more appropriate to pick a direction, so to speak.

I don't even know what the choices are.

[Anakin just rolls his eyes in Obi-Wan's direction (yes, he is astoundingly mature, thank you), and shoves his way back into his own video frame.]

Don't let him scare you, he was this dire about it when I was nine. [There's a small laugh in there too, just so; this is such a departure from the Council's warnings of "too old." So many missed opportunities. Not anymore.]

The Order was largely built to benefit from everyone's individual strengths, diplomacy, fighting, healing...though, if you're looking into farming, maybe we just need to not be talking about Jedi training. [He turns to Obi-Wan then for a fraction of a second with a sly upturn of that smile.] Anyway, it should be about what you want to do. Who you are.

[farming??? jedi are so weird. she thinks for a while, and then gives the most honest answer she can--because it's time for her to start being honest with all of these people. it isn't fair to them or to herself not to be.]

I don't know who I am. [no, no, she's done beating that dead luggabeast.] I mean, I do. I'm a scavenger, a pilot, an engineer. But I don't know where I came from. Who my family is. [another pause. this is harder to say.] Why they left me on Jakku. I don't know any of that, except bits and pieces from some stupid vision that didn't make any sense.

[Oh. Well that's a horrifying jolt back to reality, and any attempt at levity vanishes at her mention.]

...What kind of vision?

[she sits back a little and dip her head. it was terrifying. it made her not want to have anything to do with the force or the jedi. it made her want to abandon everything and run back to jakku, to the little life she'd built for herself there. as horrible as it was, she'd known it inside and out. this new power was the exact opposite. and it made her feel... vulnerable.]

I was on Takodana. The lightsaber was in storage below Maz Kanata's castle, but it... called to me. [it sounds so stupid, saying it out loud. but she forces herself to continue.] When I touched it, I saw... things I think happened in the past. Things I didn't remember, but I think I should've known. [she exhales harshly, frustrated.] Just more things I don't know.

[ There's no hiding his piqued curiosity. Obi-Wan casts a glance in Anakin's direction — We know exactly what kind of vision that happens to be. — then speaks from off-camera. ]

Rey, if you're comfortable with the idea, I think we should explore this in much greater detail in person.

[ He's not sure now is the time — he's certainly not opposed — but he wants to make their interest quite apparent. ]

[she knows he's right, but she still has to take a few seconds to convince herself to agree.]

Yeah. Yeah, we should.

[ He offers her an encouraging smile. ]

In that case, I'll be in contact. Would you mind if I brought Master Skywalker along when we do meet? He's more-than-occasionally helpful.
