Alright. Need some help here, guys. This is important, if I could have your attention, please, just for a couple of minutes.

For those of you who weren't here when we visited Amissis-Re, let me fill you in real quick. There was a scientist on that world who was studying the Ingress there, and she figured out how to fix it. For a little while, people could go back home. But it didn't last. Something about the Reverse Ingress fell apart -- I'm not entirely sure what went wrong, honestly, I just know it did.

But, as we were leaving Amissis-Re, someone found a journal the scientist had kept. The person who found it, Alphonse Elric, posted about it on the network. But Mr. Elric isn't on board any more. I've spent the past few days looking for the journal, since Doc Yewll thinks if we could decipher the scientist's notes, it could help us figure out how to fix our Ingress.

With the ship in this state, it's been really hard for me to track it down. I could really use some help looking for it. If anyone has it, or wants to help search, or has any kind of idea where it might've been kept, or anything like that? Please, let me know.

[ooc: There were three journals from the host in total, but Elle doesn't know that. Al was the only one who posted publicly on the network that I could find, so that's the only one she knows about!]

Hey, a scavenger hunt! I'm good at those, having been a scavver for a while. I'm totally on it.

Note to Aurelia: scavenger hunt meaning hunting things to scavenge, not hunting scavengers. So don't shoot me, okay?

This is totally exactly like that. A nice, good old fashioned, "if we don't find this thing that's easy to overlook we might be screwed" scavenger hunt.

Normally, I like to think I'm pretty good at scavving, too, but this is giving me a run for my caps. We need as many eyes looking out for this as we can.

So we're talking more "better find that fusion core to power the door open before the ferals in this vault overwhelm and kill me" than "hey, I wonder if there are some sweet caps in that house."

I'd put it more on the scale of, "better find which terminal can unlock the door and hack it fast enough before I'm stuck here forever," but, yeah, pretty much.

Man, I wish finding these journals just required hacking a RobCo terminal. Like any self-respecting scavver I'm pretty okay at that.

God, it'd make our lives so much easier. But I guess that's exactly why it's like this. Everything's always gotta be the hard way.

It builds character.

Or is just a pain in the ass. You decide.

Oh, I'm totally voting "pain in the ass" here.

Probably better that way. I've been told I'm quite a character already, so any more character building and I'll start wearing my underwear on my head and my shades on my ass or something.

but more importantly, if you DO locate those notes, i'm veeeeery, very interested to know what's in them

I dunno, with the ship in the state it's in right now I think we're all pretty much in the same caravan. I dont think your guess would be less good than mine

Well if I can make heads or tails of them I'll let you know. Probably not though. For some reason our translators didnt work on this journal? Mr Elric was asking for help understanding it. I dunno if itll be much help but this is the post he made to the network. [She attaches a link.]

When we get the journal I'm gonna turn it over to Doc Yewll, shes the one who asked me to look for it. I can let you know when I do though?

I dunno, I haven't seen it for myself yet. But for the Ingress to not translate it, probably. I've heard that it's translated whale song before? So uh. It's....... gotta be. something.

If you find anything interesting you should take it to Doc Yewll or one of the captains, too, just in case it could help the Ingress get fixed. It's really... I don't know it just seems weird that someone would build a ship like this around something like the Ingress. Especially if it's so hard to fix when it's broken. Maybe it wasn't hard for the people who built it, but it just seems so... I dunno. I'd think it SOUNDS like a disaster waiting to happen. You know??

forget building a ship around it, the thing itself is a disaster waiting to happen
or a disaster currently in progress, depending on your perspective
but if there's this many of us trying to figure the thing out, i'm not opposed to some info sharing

Side note the fact that the person who found the journal isn't on board anymore is a little weird.

No, unfortunately. I haven't seen the journal myself yet. But there's something that stands out about it for sure. Our translators don't work on the language on it. Cuz Mr Elric mentioned he needed help with that. I know it isnt much to go on, I'm sorry. If I had more info I'd let you know :(

I dunno if this will help with clues but I can send you the post Mr. Elric made about the journal. [She attaches a link.] I figure anything might help. I know some people talked to him about helping interpret it, maybe we can contact them and find out if they at least know what it looks like?

Ummmm. That's a good idea. I didn't even think about that. Ugh I'm still not used to having a library around... Like, maybe someone picked it up and turned it in there, not knowing what it was? That kind of thing?

Well that's possible, yes. But I was more going off what was said in that transmission you linked.

From what little I can see, he talked about being in his rooms, a coffee shop and the library.

Just thinking to track his movements while he had the book with him.

Alphonse is gone? You're for sure? Like, he could just be in those frozen tubes.

[He's already wizzing off to check as he says it, sighing once he's been out of the medbay and settled against the wall. He liked the Elric brothers, enough that the news of one's disappearance has more of his attention than what she's really after.

He wonders briefly who's looking after Than and Ben with Al gone, and his expression sours.]

Jesus, you leave for a few weeks and everything gets turned around.

[With the video on, Elle can see the interior of the ship whirl past. Honestly, it makes her dizzy, and she's rubbing at one of her eyes with a hand by the time he's done. Oh, jeez. Okay, she's okay.]

Y-Yeah... That's what I was told. [A beat.] Was he your friend? I'm... sorry. Both that he's gone, and that... this is how you found out.

[He forgets sometimes how his powers appear to other people. He'd feel bad when he notices her touching her eyes, if he weren't too busy trying not to be upset. It's just so many people he feels like have been 'lost' since he went in the tubes.]

We worked together. I guess we were. [Peter sighs.] Not like it's your fault. Whatever you're looking for from him, his brother might have. If he's not gone too.

I've seen the notebook.

[OOC: I need to get in touch with Al's player! I did part of a thread with them about this, and the intention was for L to capture images of the pages, but for various OOC reasons on both ends, we didn't get that far in the thread itself. If the handwave is what I think it should be, there will be good still images of every page or a reasonable video of the pages turning.]

Were you able to understand it at all? What did it look like?

[ Well, that sounds promising. Except for the part where the person who'd had the information is no longer here, but this is still the best lead Snake's heard of in some time.

He replies with video, both because that's what she'd used and because if he wants to be in on this information-sharing ring, he should at least show his face. ]

I was in cryo through most of the visit to that planet, but if you give me an idea of what the journal looks like, I'll keep an eye out.

And if you do find it, do you plan to share whatever information it has?

[ They're strangers, but she'd been open enough with her request. Hopefully that means she'll be similarly open with whatever she finds out. ]

Yeah, I don't wanna, like... I mean -- It wouldn't help anyone if I just kept it to myself. It's the best option I can think of for fixing the Ingress. And if we don't get it fixed...

[Elle considers finishing that sentence, but she decides against it. She doubts she has to really... say it. The ship started listing the moment the Ingress went out, and now, all of this... glass stuff. There's no doubt what might happen if they don't fix it.]

Once it's found, it should go to people who can decipher it and use the information to get us out of this mess. I'm not a scientist, or anything. But this, I can do.

I'm no scientist either. [ Snake realizes that work is much better off in the hands of someone else, but that doesn't mean he isn't invested in fixing the Ingress. As she'd implied, they're pretty much screwed if they don't. ]

But the captains made it pretty clear to me that if the Ingress completely breaks, we've got no chance of getting home. Makes it priority one for us to get it stable.

[ Even if all he can do is keep an eye out for this journal, that's better than sitting around on his ass. ]

So... [ He tilts his head at her. ] Do you know what it looks like?
