Hello everyone, this is Clark Kent, your resident gardener...
[ Clark smiles at the camera, and reaches up to brush a little water away from his brow. He's stripped down a damp undershirt and streaked liberally with dirt. It might be a little surprising to those who've only seen him in his loose-fitting uniform, but Clark is thickly built, and looks perfectly at home with physical work.
Granted, he's not damp from sweat. About five minutes earlier there was an incident with a garden hose that was most definitely shut off when he set it down. He's starting to think that a lot of things on this ship have a mind of their own. ]
If you've been through the gardens lately, you might have noticed some new seedlings peeking through the dirt. So far, I've planted a variety of vegetables and some fruit suitable mainly to humans. Ideally, I'd like to meet more the crew's varied dietary needs. If there are any specific foods you're looking for that I might not be familiar with, feel free to contact me. I can't promise that I'll be able to grow everything, but I'll do my best.
[ Clark glances at something over his shoulder, then rubs his chin, leaving another streak of dirt along his jaw that he's entirely unaware of. ]
And as a last note... I bought a sculpture here earlier, and put it in the gardens for decoration. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of us are seeing memories and weird illusions in the glass produced by the locals. While the effect is physically harmless, it can be pretty jarring, and I wouldn't want anyone to be caught unaware.
[ He pauses for a moment, then shakes his head. ]
I think that's all. You'll be able to find me in the gardens for the next couple of hours if you have any questions.
[ And true to his word, Clark will be in the gardens for the next little while, watering the plants and re-planting any seedlings that need to be brought out from the nursery. ]

[She turns as he passes, watching him clear the bench for her. It definitely looks like a very inviting and calm lunch spot, even without the handsome gardener involved.] Who wouldn't be worried about the wrath of the hose? It has the power to make someone continue their workday damp and uncomfortable or pay a visit to get a dry uniform while dripping wet. Neither one sounds good to me.
[After the rest of the equipment is cleared, Elizabeth slides onto the bench-- very ladylike-- and starts unwrapping her sandwich.] Were you hungry? I thought I might keep one of these for later, but... you know, chicken salad. [She holds up a second sandwich.]

[ He's not so sure about the 'improving' part after all, but Liz is a good sport about ridiculous jokes. It's... fun. He's genuinely happy to have her company. He just has to make sure to avoid getting too caught up.
He straightens to head back to work, but now that she mentions it - well, maybe he could take a break. ]
Sure. Thank you. [ He smiles briefly then takes the sandwich and settles down beside her. ] Have you been working all day too? I can clean up and bring dinner by the library later. Give you a hand with things, if you want.

[She grins into her sandwich. That was probably too mean-- but she definitely went there.]
[Elizabeth scoots enough to give Clark some polite space to eat, leaning back on the bench and swinging her legs.] Oh but you'll have been working all day. Don't you want to go back to your room and... relax or something? ['You're an idiot, DeWitt.'] I mean-- if you wanted to it would be a lot of help, but I imagine what you do here leaves you pretty tired at the end of the day...? If you collapsed in a little heap I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

He unwraps the sandwich and takes a large bite out of it. He has to thumb a little mayo from the corner of his mouth, but he licks it off as soon as he swallows the first bite.
He looks a little uncertain at first - is this her polite way of telling him to back off? But then she seems to reconsider, and Clark smiles again. ]
This is going to sound a little obnoxious but... I grew up on a farm. This doesn't feel like much in comparison. [ It's not a small garden by a long shot, but it's not acres of wide open space and sprawling landscape either. He never thought he'd miss much about Kansas, but he does. ]
And I've got an ulterior motive. Not collapsing on your floor just - I thought if we had some time, we could trade books to read.

Ah, I guess it wouldn't. I mean, even if you're growing produce in here, it's not exactly ten acres of land. But it's really beautiful, even if it's not a lot of space. [She loves green places, and this one was unlike any she'd seen before.]
[The mention of trading books has her smiling excitedly. That's one of her favorite things to do, admittedly, and if he doesn't mind coming by to help...] Well... I am getting a little tired of going up and down this ladder. Our section on architecture and engineering is growing past the point where I can stretch up and juuust barely push the books onto the shelf with my fingertips.
