Hello, all. Thought I might as well say 'hi' since I'm new here. The name is Chloe Frazer. I was assigned to be a transporter technician even though I don't know a bloody thing about transporters.

Anyone else have an odd job or is it just me?

[Maybe the captains just want to keep her out of trouble by making her work hard at something new.]

My theory is the captains are using a dartboard or a hat for assignments. I'm kind of leaning toward the dartboard at the moment. [She shrugs.]

Anyway, I hope we can all manage to get along here. Things seem a bit tense lately. Cheers.

I'm a school teacher here. Definitely not what I was doing in my past life.

Oh, my friend is assigned as a teacher, too. Not that he ever spent much time in school. I guess that's not a qualification here.

There are a number of kids. I've never taken a full census of them, but there are enough to keep us busy if they bother to show up.

Sounds like it's not much of a school. Given that I haven't heard anyway say they were a teacher in their previous job, I can only imagine what everyone is teaching them.

I'm changing the process for choosing subjects right now. To a student-led model.

So they're going to tell you what they want to learn or something?

That's the general idea, yes. I'm just going to assess them at the end of the unit with a question-and-answer assessment.

What if they want to learn useless stuff? I guess a formal education might not be important in our present situation, though.

I feel like taking the effort to learn something is the main goal, since yes, there's no standards we're conforming to or anything.

Given my particular talents, it's a good thing I'm not a teacher. I don't think I'd be very good at it.

Does that mean you're not going to put in for a transfer of departments?

Seriously though, stick with where you're comfortable. You're allowed to apply for a new job if you want one.

What I'm comfortable with isn't really something I can do here, but thanks for the advice.
